You’d never think TikTok could be used to help save a life but there are many instances where the platform has come in handy. An 11-year-old girl named Sophia Pilderian was able to save her mother, Tiffany’s life in the nick of time, thanks to TikTok, per NBC 10 WJAR. While the app is said to be for trends, reels, dancing and things of the sort, the little girl made a quick recall that rendered life-saving for her mum. It is also the girl’s sharp observation and brave action that additionally helped massively. According to a study published in the National Library of Medicine, social media apps can be of productive help, assisting users to learn life skills.

Apart from information, prevention, awareness and more on health and other factors, the many platforms have also been making profound contributions to educating people about crucial realities. The creatives used on various apps allow users to get an alternative understanding of important topics like health, adding to the lessons imparted via traditional methods. In the case of Sophia and her mum, she used the knowledge she received from the app, along with her own other skills. The 11-year-old was at home with her mom at night. She first felt an instinct to not sleep.

“My body was just telling me not to go to sleep. Something told me, like, I shouldn’t be asleep right now,” she recalled. Around 3.30 am, the girl started noticing her mom acting differently. “She was acting weird, walking around, quiet. She was a little droopy. I could tell she was off,” her daughter said. The girl knew she had to keep track of what was happening. Just as her instincts suggested, her mom’s condition started to get worse by the hours. “She rolled on her back and started leaning back. And she started making a weird noise,” Sophia recalled. However, the girl remained composed and observant.

Going against her mom’s protest, the girl dialed 911 and bravely spoke to the dispatcher, sharing all the details of Tiffany's condition as best as she could. The mom also began bubbling at the mouth and it was crucial that action be taken. The girl was guided with instructions to position her mother and render CPR. To her luck, she knew how to give the chest compressions — thanks to TikTok. She recalled having watched a video on the app where they showed how to perform CPR and recounted the steps for her mum. Malia Quirindongo, Sophia’s older sister, knew something worrisome was happening. However, Sophia was already at work with the CPR.

“Once she told me she heard ribs cracking, I was like, ‘Oh, you’re good. You got to the heart. That’s all that matters,’” Quirindongo said. The 11-year-old administered CPR for 5 minutes until the medics arrived. Those 5 minutes helped Tiffany survive. The mom and the rest of the family owe endless thanks to Sophia for the life-saving actions she rendered. “She has a long recovery but she wouldn’t have anything to recover if she didn’t live,” the older sister said. The 11-year-old said, “I think I’m like a real-life superhero, honestly,” and her family couldn’t agree more.
