11-year-old who loves terminally ill little brother more than life breaks down after hearing his name on the radio
The good that we do comes around in some way or another. Though it may seem like a pre-defined life lies ahead of us, things work around for the best in miraculous ways. 11-year-old Alize from Christchurch, New Zealand, took on the role of an adult way ahead of his time, per Faithpot. The little boy had 2 siblings, a younger sister and a 4-year-old brother Andre. Alize also had a twin, Ace, who unfortunately passed away much earlier. The boy had to care for Andre, who was terminally ill due to a brain injury. When he had to pull up his socks and sacrifice much of his childhood to be a guide and mentor to his siblings, a surprising call from a radio station changed his life.
Andre’s terminal illness made him blind, non-verbal and immobile. As anyone could imagine, there was a heap load of challenges that went into looking after the toddler and his sister, most of which Alize managed. Right from feeding and taking him for walks to everything, Alize had his back. He went above and beyond to look after his little brother. His grandmother, Vicky, thought it would be a good idea to send his name for a “Jingle Bail” program, organized by More FM. The former is arranged to give sick and special-need children and caregivers a relaxing tour of Australia’s Gold Coast.
In a video shared on Facebook, the grandmother decided to surprise Alize by sharing the nomination while they were seated in a car together. As she spoke with the host, she was honored to share how thoughtful and kind the young boy is. “He is amazing. He is the older brother of a little guy who has severe brain damage he's had this since birth and needs a lot of help and alas, he just does everything that needs to be done without asking. I don't know what else to say, this kid's amazing,” she remarked. As Alize listened to his grandmother commending him live, he was delighted, smiling ear to ear.
Describing the boy as a “guardian angel” to Andre, the grandma continued the wholesome conversation. Listening to the exchange, the 11-year-old was moved to tears. He loved his little brother too much and couldn’t bear to see him suffer. Nevertheless, he stayed strong in the face of adversity and took care of him. The hosts decided that the boy deserved to get something special in return for this hard work. “He needs some special time and he’s gonna get it because we’re going to put him on that plane,” the host said.
The little boy broke down on hearing the news and was overjoyed. His grandmother and sister, who were also with him in the car, couldn’t help but cheer in joy. Sharing the cutest embrace with his sister, Alize tried hard to hold his tears back but he was overwhelmed by the appreciation. He finally got a chance to relax and be a kid again. "Alize gets the biggest surprise of his life. He's been such an amazing big brother to Andre, he really deserves this," the caption of the post read.
