9-year-old girl saw robber attacking her mom in parking lot—then did the unimaginable to chase the robber away
A person might try their best to protect their loved one if they are in trouble. However, no one had expected a 9-year-old girl to come to her mom's rescue after a robber started attacking the mom. The girl, Journee Nelson, was on a supermarket trip with her mom, Danielle Mobley, when a robber attacked Mobley for her purse. The woman was struggling to defend herself when her daughter ran around the car and came to her rescue, per the Miami Herald.
Mobley was loading her groceries into her car after the supermarket trip with her daughter when a robber, Demetrius Jackson, attacked her and pushed her to the ground. He was trying to steal her purse and it was getting difficult for the mom to defend herself. But then both the woman and the robber were left stunned, as the daughter ran around the car and started punching Jackson in the face. The robber was caught off guard for a bit as he hadn't expected such a reaction from a child. But then he turned his attention to Journee and pushed her. At that moment, the mom immediately let the robber take her purse to protect her daughter.
Jackson ran away with the purse, but the Journee was not ready to give up yet. "She actually jumped up and chased him four houses down the block with me chasing her, calling her back," Mobley went on. The purse had bank cards, a Coach wallet, $40 cash, a concealed carry permit and a Samsung cellphone. The robber got away at the moment, but the police could arrest him later on. The department was proud of what the girl could do for her mom in the terrifying moment. An officer explained that chasing after a culprit or confronting them was not recommended, but it might have worked well in the family's case.
"I wouldn't recommend that you confront an individual like that, but in the heat of the moment, things happen. I bet he was shocked when she hit him right in his face, because you can definitely tell on the videotape that he was not expecting that and her actions were perfect timing in this particular situation and I think she hit him pretty hard," West Palm Beach Police Chief Frank Adderley explained. The girl was awarded with a medal, a certificate and a Target gift card for her bravery in the situation. The West Palm Beach Police Department, who go by @WestPalmPD on X, appreciated the girl with a ceremony and a post. "The West Palm Beach Police Foundation presented the child with a token of appreciation," the caption read.
People applauded the girl for her bravery in the comments section of the post. @EdwardP02544662 wrote, "Leave it to a little girl to show the men what they should be doing.
