9-year-old panicked when pregnant mom collapsed on bathroom floor — his life-saving call ensured she survived

A 9-year-old boy managed to make the right decision in the nick of time when his pregnant mom passed out on the bathroom floor. The little boy immediately sprang into action to call 911 and managed to save both his mom and the baby. He shared that he was willing to go to any lengths to make sure that his mom woke up, per WLWT News. His parents were very grateful for what their son managed to do.

"My mom could have died," the boy, Oliver Ware, told the outlet. His mom, Niki Ware, had suffered a life-threatening complication while she was 35 weeks into her pregnancy. Oliver heard a big thud from somewhere in the house and immediately decided to check what had happened. He found his mom lying on the bathroom floor, passed out. "I was panicking, moving her back and forth, saying Mom, Mom!" he recounted. The boy had just gotten home from school at that time and his dad was still at work. He called 911 for help and explained the situation to the 911 dispatcher. The woman, on the other end, had realized that a kid was calling and asked him if his mom was breathing. Oliver confirmed that she was.
"I am just super nervous because she is pregnant," he revealed on the call. "We are going to check her breathing together. We are going to do a little test. Do you think you can do that for me?" the dispatcher asked. Oliver was ready to do anything to wake his mom up. The woman instructed him to look at his mom's chest and say "go" every time she took a breath. He stuck to his mom's side until the paramedics arrived. The dispatcher was on call with the boy until the police came to the scene. "Everything will be okay. You did a great job calling," the woman reassured him. "The fact that he was able to get on the phone, knew who to get a hold of, that was key," Oliver's dad remarked.
Niki had suffered multiple seizures because of high blood pressure and that could have cut the oxygen flow to her baby, Riley. "He had to save his momma and his baby sister and that's what he did. To us, that is the definition of a hero," the boy's dad, Jeff, went on. Oliver had learned how to call 911 and what to do during an emergency like this during a class at school. The mom didn't remember the things after she entered the restroom that day, until she woke up in the emergency room of Kettering Health Hamilton, per the Journal News. "I didn’t feel good that entire day. I had an earache and I went to pick him up from school. My friends were telling me, 'Yeah, you don’t look right,'" Niki recalled.
Oliver called his grandma first and then called 911, according to the outlet. The dad got a panicked call from his mother-in-law and immediately rushed to the hospital. "I probably got to Kettering Health in a much faster way than I intended," Jeff explained. The boy's quick action is a major reason why his sister Riley and his mom are healthy now, according to the doctors. "He’s our hero, too. Time is vital in a situation like that, for mother and for baby. Had she kept having seizures, that would have taken away the oxygen from the baby. Time is a huge factor in the outcome," Taylor Sobe, a registered nurse, commented.
