A stranger showed up on her doorbell camera at 6 AM. She panicked — until she found out why

She thought that it was odd to get a delivery this early in the morning, and most Ring camera alerts in her area didn't come with good news.

Noticing a stranger on a ring camera at an odd hour is usually bad news. However, for a woman, it was the opposite when she saw a man outside her door at 6 AM. The woman, Katie Egger Markis, was concerned at first when she saw the footage, but when she noticed what the man did, she was surprised by the Good Samaritan's act. Markis shared that she was alerted by her home's doorbell camera when the man came in to return her lost belongings, per her Facebook post.

"Typically, posted videos from Ring cameras are about package thefts, break-ins, people juggling car doors on the street to see what's open...," Markis expressed. "And our neighborhood listserv is always littered with these this time of year." But her experience was a positive one. She saw an alert at 6 in the morning when she was setting up a class at Off Road DC. She clicked it and thought it was weird to get a delivery that early in the morning. Markis even thought that she might have gotten mail or something. "Turns out: I was in a huge rush this morning and didn't zip my bag. My wallet fell out in the middle of the road."

In the video, a man could be seen at the door, trying to return her lost wallet. He first tried to put it in her mailbox, but that didn't work. So he tucked the wallet under her doormat instead. "This guy was nice enough to stop his van, clearly checked the address on the ID and returned it under our mat," Markis explained. She pointed out that someone returning a wallet in DC was practically unheard of. "You drop a wallet, you lose a wallet and you usually lose everything in your accounts if you're not quick, too." She added, "Counting my blessings today- I'm damn lucky." She thanked the "Dallas fan" in plaid with a white van and wrote, "You're what's right in the world."

"There is so much negativity that we always see these days, and especially the last couple of weeks. I think it has been really rough on people, so I was really happy to share something positive," Markis told ABC 7 News. People shared their thoughts on the incident in the comments. Nancy Parks Egger wrote, "Thank you for the good news! It made my day! There are good souls out in the world, and it is nice to hear about them for a change."

Wendy Young Marco commented, "Look at how many views already! I think we all needed a good Samaritan story. I hope that you find this man, so he can find out how his small act of kindness lifted the spirits of so many people. What struck me is his limp. It wasn't easy for him to stop his van, get out, find your wallet and walk up the steps to your house. And he was doing this with complete anonymity. So love this!" Anne Murray Dapra remarked, "And it looks like he has a bad leg, but still stopped and got out to do a good deed! God bless!
