Amazon delivery driver shares mind-boggling reason why you should never put packages on your bed or countertop
Ordering online and anticipating your package can be an exciting thing. However, when your package arrives, as much as you’d like to go all in and see the products, you want to steer clear of the same for an eye-opening reason. Our first instinct after receiving a delivery is to place the same on the nearest surface and tear through the wrapping to get a glimpse. Many people place their much-awaited packages on countertops, dinner tables, beds and other surfaces. An Amazon delivery person who goes by (@aayyeelex) on TikTok shared a striking reason why you should avoid doing the same. With their own firsthand experience, they have a convincing reason to be careful about handling packages.
The delivery person recalled seeing another worker caution people to not place their packages on countertops or beds. They added that they couldn’t agree more. They said, “As someone who works for Amazon, stop putting your boxes on your bed and your counters.” As for the reason, the worker went on to reveal that they had already delivered around 20-25 packages for the day and showed a glimpse of their palms. Captured by the camera, their hands were full of dirt and dust from handling the deliveries. They additionally highlighted that they had washed their hands shortly before revealing the same. Yet, there was so much dirt and unruly dust marks from the packages.
You too, may recall finding dust or dirt on your delivery boxes and these aren’t to be taken lightly. The bacteria and germs clinging to the same from unknown periods are terrifying, let alone the number of people who have managed and handled the packages up to the point of delivery. Getting such items on your dinner table, bed surfaces and other countertops means giving germs a wide invitation to invade your life. To further clarify the same, Circuit conducted an analysis where they swabbed delivery boxes to check the amount of germs on the parcels. The results were far from anything close to clean. The packages are deemed to be “dirtier than a kitchen sink” and no one would dare get their hands into that grime.
The study also revealed that a majority of 52% of people open their packages on their beds or kitchen countertops followed by coffee tables and other spaces. The threat is equivalent to that of being in a “germ hotel.” People were baffled upon learning the truth but it's not just Amazon, every delivery personnel can only relate and caution people about the same. @kikisosleepy said, “I work at UPS and I saw someone spit on his hands to get a better grip while picking up the packages.”
@yoga.punk added, “I work for USPS, and the mail and packages are so dirty.” @tawnjun23 suggested, “Open them outside your house. As a former postal worker, nothing is cleaned.” @that_boy_lomax_59 remarked, “I worked for FedEx, I can tell you never ever put your packages on your bed or tables.” With this treacherous atrocity, a few recommendations like sanitizing the package by wiping or spraying can help. One can even choose to open their packages outside their homes or on the floor, as long as it’s miles away from your beds and countertops!
