Amazon driver spotted grandma on street 'waving' strangely at him—he looked at her hand and dropped everything to help her
There is so much we can do to help if we only look around. On careful observation, one would notice that there are requests for help visible in many encounters. An Amazon driver, Wilmar, was going about his day getting deliveries done when he spotted a subtle cry for help, per Ring. The man noticed an elderly lady, Gigi, on the street, waving at him in a peculiar fashion. He rushed to help her. A ring video captured the footage of the man kindly assisting the woman after realizing she needed help. 92-year-old Gigi had advanced dementia. The woman was wandering off on the streets with no idea of where she was going.
The camera captured her wandering off till she was no longer in sight. That’s when the driver stepped in. “I was delivering and I saw this older lady walking by. She waved at me which isn't an odd occurrence, people wave at you all the time as an Amazon driver. But she was waving at me like something happened,” Wilmar recalled. The man spotted Gigi wearing a bracelet and realized it was a medical one. “I noticed how she had this wristband on. And it had her name and her information, as well as, who to contact,” he explained. It immediately clicked that the woman was in trouble and rushed to help.
With the help of the information on the bracelet, Wilmar contacted Karen, Gigi’s granddaughter. She was away from home and the driver gladly obliged to bring her home. “I was able to flip on my Ring camera and watch them come into the driveway,” Karen mentioned. The footage captured the man ever so gently bringing the woman into his truck, helping her get off and assisting her to the door. “It gave us that extra layer of comfort and relief that we could see everything. That it wasn't just a phone call, it wasn't just somebody saying, 'Oh, she's in,' it was us visually seeing that she was safe, she was where she needed to be,” the woman added.
Karen mentioned that Wilmar had been often bringing deliveries to the community. She was acquainted with the man and trusted that her grandmother would be safe with him. “I felt that Wilmar went above and beyond. We have that type of a great close-knit community here that if there's something that a driver's going to spot that's out of line, he's going to say, 'I'm going to make sure that my customers are taken care of, because this doesn't look right,'” she noted.
“It made me feel safe that she was taken care of by somebody who's been to my home, somebody that had a connection to the house and the family,” Karen remarked. As for the driver, he considers himself part of the community and was honored to step in and make a massive difference. As an inspiring example, he noted, “I think it's very important that the community looks out for one another. If something happens, see something, say something. You just wanna make sure that your neighbors are safe, and everybody's happy. It benefits all as long as we're all contributing.”
