There are so many medical concerns to be cautious of during pregnancy and even a little ignorance or delay can be dangerous for the mom and baby. Niki Ware was 35 weeks into her pregnancy when she collapsed and fell to the ground, per WLWT5. It was only when her 9-year-old son, Oliver, got home from school that he found his mom on the floor. The boy jumped into action and took all the necessary measures as best he could. As a result, he managed to save not only his mother but also his unborn sister.

Niki collapsed after suffering seizures due to high blood pressure. According to a report by Medical Express, around 16% of pregnancies involve complications connected to high blood pressure. Also known as gestational hypertension, it usually occurs post-20 weeks of pregnancy, per Cleveland Clinic. During such cases, the pressure is greater than or equal to 140/90. It can cause severe risks to the mom and the fetus and even affect the development of the baby. The fourth grader returned from school when he found his pregnant mom on the floor.

He recalled hearing a “thump” and rushed to find his mom in dire need of help. “I was panicking, moving her back and forth. I was saying, ‘Mom, mom!’” the boy said, per KBTX3. His dad, Jeff, was away at work. The boy knew he had to act fast. He immediately dialed 911 and spoke to the operator. He bravely stayed on the call with the dispatcher and followed all the instructions given until help arrived. The dispatcher helped keep the boy calm and guided him thoroughly. "My mom could have died,” the 9-year-old recalled. He realized the weight of the matter and put aside his fear to be with his mom and ensure help.

Having learned how to call the emergency services in school, he put it to use when it mattered the most. “I was mostly thinking to myself, ‘I’ll do anything just to wake my mom up,’” Oliver said. He added that his grandmother and the dispatcher played crucial roles in keeping him calm so he could attend to his mother. In such cases, when seizures occur, the oxygen supply gets cut off from the fetus, which can cause severe harm. Doctors noted that the call from the young boy managed to provide timely help with saving the mom and the child’s lives.

The dad commented that the very fact that he knew he had to “pick up the phone, knew what to do, who to get hold of, that it was key.” “He had to save his mama and his sister, and that's what he did. To me, that's the definition of a hero,” Jeff remarked. The dad added that he was immensely proud of his son and was relieved to know that, despite his age, he is a pillar for them all. "Good to know I've got this guy here. He's got all of our backs,” he said. The boy is excited to carry out the role of an older brother and protect and love his sister.
