Boy starts dancing like no one's watching at graduation ceremony. His on-the-spot-choreography is mind-blowing
Everyone has some aspect that makes them unique and it is this characteristic that becomes their strength. Unfortunately, in the fear of being the odd one out, many take a step back and hide their authenticity. Being comfortable in your own skin and shining just the way you are takes courage that not many have. However, for Trevor Colling, a 6th-grader from the 2021 batch at Highlands Elementary School, life is all about taking chances. He didn’t want to blend in the crowd, definitely not on his graduation day, per Dothan Eagle. The boy celebrated his graduation with other students from the 6th grade in style and his spontaneous choreography stole the show.
In a video shared by his mum, Gemma Bolling, Trevor is seen standing with his fellow students before breaking into dance to the tunes of “I’m Good” by The Mowgli's being chorally sung. Standing with a couple of students who felt awkward while performing, Trevor had no care in the world. He went all out to bust simple yet enthusiastic moves that left the crowd in awe. "Trevor Bolling was just supposed to sing a song like all the other kids at Dothan Highlands School, but then he took it to the next level with his dance moves," the caption of another post by WBRC 6 News read.
“He’s just really silly, really goofy. But, I didn’t know he was going to do that… He just completely improvised that dance routine,” his mum mentioned. In the video, Trevor is seen comfortably moving his hands and neck and expressively dancing in his position with freestyle moves. His expressions, energy and everything left people smiling ear to ear. Though his mum was slightly embarrassed at first, she soon began to enjoy the boy being himself along with the rest of the crowd. Trevor’s teacher, too, appreciated the boy for being himself and not letting the crowd or the students restrict him from truly enjoying.
The teacher mentioned how many students were too shy to even sing while others were robotically following the pre-planned performance. "Then, there was Trevor... the one that we all look back on our middle school days and wish we had been courageous enough to be. We all wish we had his confidence and joy during one of the most awkward years of our lives,” she exclaimed. Many were admiring the 6th-grader for his beautiful courage to be himself. Looking back, he will have no regrets as he gave his best on that stage. Another one of his teachers, Erin Woodham, noted a striking fact that his performance inspired many students that day. It surely taught them and all of us to get out of our shells and nail our authenticity.
“When you’re imitating other people, you suppress who you are. God gave us so many gifts and God gave him that gift, making people happy,” she added. All Trevor wanted to do was be himself and give his best to make the ceremony a wholesome one. Undoubtedly, he succeeded in the same along with earning a 2-year fine arts scholarship at Wallace Community College. The college, in a post, shared that they were proud to have someone like Trevor who is fearless enough to shine as he is. “His impromptu dance moves and winning attitude during his 6th grade graduation earned him the award, and made his mom, Gemma, proud,” the caption read.
