Bride’s mother uninvited 10 relatives after learning about their $400 group gift — two family members made one move that ended the relationship
Family members are invited to wedding celebrations so all can be a part of the bride and groom’s big day. The main goal is to receive blessings and make memories. However, one bride’s mom saw things differently. A Reddit user who goes by u/AnastasiaNo70 shared the instance on Thursday, August 27, 2026, explaining how the matriarch had invited them and their family. Unfortunately, the latter was struggling at the time and couldn’t afford the expensive gifts. After learning this, she uninvited them. Feeling disrespected, a few relatives pulled off one move that made her cut ties with them.
They invited the family, and around 10 members were meant to go. When they saw the wedding registry, they realized they couldn’t afford anything. At the time, the folks were struggling financially and were living “almost hand to mouth.” They picked the cheapest item and stretched their pockets to pitch in for it. When the bride’s mom learned that 10 people were giving nearly $400, she revoked their wedding invite. She even called the relatives and suggested they stay at home. Enraged, two men from the group secretly crashed the wedding. “They didn’t cause any trouble. Didn’t try to eat or drink, just wanted to make sure certain people saw them,” the post explained. After that, the matriarch cut ties with them all.
The cousin to be married was from the “rich side” of the family, so it was understandable that they had exquisite requests. However, gifts were as expensive as $800 and $3000 for a year of monthly floral bouquets. For a family that couldn’t afford basic expenses, this felt impossible. The mom called the matriarch to ask if they could just give cash, but was told it was “too tacky.” Since they were forced to pick something from the registry, the $385 oven toaster was the only thing that they could manage. Yet, it apparently didn’t compensate for 10 people. Ironically, the situation worked out well for the uninvited guests. They were able to return the toaster and put the money to good use. After the bride’s mom cut ties, they no longer had to hear about entitled and expensive holidays the rich family took. Moreover, a few years later, the couple ended up getting a divorce.
Loved ones are meant to join wedding celebrations to be a part of the big milestone. Uninviting them for petty reasons can affect relationships and have a major impact on the big day. In another instance, a bride decided to uninvite her friend to make room for her husband’s side of the family. When the friend reached out, the woman told her she was being removed from the list. Things later took a surprising turn. For some reason, the bride soon began asking guests on social media whether they had RSVP’d, almost as if she were desperate to have attendees. Her requests got so weird that she was even commenting on guests’ posts to ask if they had replied. The friend decided to hold onto her self-respect and refused to go.
