Bus driver saw pregnant woman lose control of her car and crash into tree — her quick response saved the woman

People can be going about their day as usual and unexpectedly find themselves with the opportunity to save a life. At that time, the action taken in a matter of seconds may determine the fate of a person. A Milwaukee County Transit System bus driver, Latanya S., found herself pondering this opportunity when she spotted something unusual on her route. The department shared a video of the woman driving the bus on her way to the usual route. However, she suddenly spotted a black Chevrolet dangerously making its way across the busy road. Her quick response helped save a pregnant woman’s life.

Latanya was on the bus and noticed a car swerving and crossing from one side of the street to the other. Abruptly making its way through the cars, the bus driver intently looked to figure out what was happening. Things got more worrisome when the car started making its way onto the path at the side. Latanya tried to check if something was wrong, but was unable to receive a response. Instead, the video captured the car slowly making its way to the tree ahead. The bus driver knew something wasn’t right and immediately got down from her bus and started running towards the car. Unfortunately, the car lightly crashed into the tree.

She immediately approached the driver and realized it was a pregnant woman who had lost control of her car. Latanya stayed with her, ensuring she was okay. The department mentioned that she remained with the woman until others arrived to help and until she knew more help was on the way. She then continued on her route with her bus. The pregnant woman identified herself as Sharonda Latrael in a comment on the post. “I am the person behind the wheel. At the time, I was late in my 2nd trimester as a surrogate,” she wrote. She added that she and her baby were fine and thanked the bus driver “for being a brave and caring soul.”

“Truly a hero! By the time I had come to, I was surrounded by medics and other citizens, but I had no idea you were there and the first responder,” she said. She added that she was forever grateful. It’s safe to say that Latanya saved two lives that day. Mimi Perfect said, “You’re brave and an example of what compassion looks like.” Jakya Coleman added, “Thank you for doing it when you didn’t have to.” A woman named Nelly S. heard her story and decided to raise funds for Latanya as a token of gratitude. Had it not been for her, the woman would have received delayed help or possibly no help at all after the crash.
The description added more insight into Latanya’s life. Having grown up in a foster home, she dealt with many challenges. Sharing a thoughtful appreciation for bus drivers, Nelly added, “Bus drivers are on the frontlines of our communities, helping people from all walks of life—those with disabilities, mental health struggles and those facing difficult circumstances. They provide more than just transportation; they offer a listening ear, words of encouragement, and even life-saving actions like Latanya’s.” The fundraiser had a goal of $10,000, which will help Latanya with any financial requirements or even for a vacation. “This is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a way for our community to say, ‘We see you. We appreciate you. We need more people like you.’”
