People might look at parenthood in different ways. Because of that, everyone needs to respect others' opinions. However, the outcome was hardly the same when singer-songwriter Chappell Roan expressed her views on parenthood on a podcast, "Call Her Daddy." The singer shared that she probably would not have kids after looking at the lives of her friends who are parents. The comment by the singer caused uproar on the internet until a pregnant woman decided to back Roan.

"All of my friends who have kids are in hell. I actually don’t know anyone who's like happy and has children at this age," the 27-year-old singer expressed. She pointed out how most of her friends, who are parents, are exhausted and sleep-deprived most of the time. Many people shared their disagreement with her statement in the comments on the clip uploaded on the channel's TikTok page (@callherdaddy).

@chrisellems wrote, "While yes, I’m tired and I may not always have light in my eyes, I would definitely never have light in my eyes at all without my babies." @khosborns commented, "It’s so much more nuanced than 'motherhood is the best/worst.' It is hard, and she just showed that she’s not the person for her friends to vent to about the hard parts because she’s judging."

@haleydimmick remarked, "We are tired. But we also wouldn’t have it any other way. Imagine hating on people for living their dream of being a parent." @riia_sirouses shared, "I know she is talking about her friends, but if my friend would say something along the lines of 'Oh she is living in hell because x y and z,' I would be very upset." @haleymarywright expressed, "Mothers are so harshly criticized from all directions enough already. As women, we should not be picking each other apart, but raising each other up. Disappointed." @esperanza.gt pointed out, "Aside from the complete and so public betrayal of trust with her friends…why do people always forget that we were all children. Even her."

However, a woman named Sarah Ashley Nelson, who goes by @sarahashleynelson on TikTok and is expecting her first child at 23, agreed with the singer and shared her reasoning with the internet. "Raise your hand if you agree with Chappell Roan and you are just tired of mothers telling child-free women what to think and to just not think about it." Nelson suggested that pushing the narrative that having a kid "is the best decision" can be damaging. "They are the reason why women are not getting the help and support they need," she remarked. "It's 2025, everyone is different. Let's not shame women who are just trying to have a genuine discourse in conversation."

Nelson added that women should be allowed to say that they don't want kids without offending people. "Obviously, not all women hate motherhood–but I think it’s super damaging for mothers to constantly be weighing in and telling other women to just 'go for it' and shaming other women for questioning motherhood," she wrote. "So many mothers don’t want to acknowledge that it is a real struggle that a lot of mothers go through and ultimately, it’s keeping women stuck and unsupported." In the response to her clip, many people agreed that Roan was "right" in more than one way. "Parents are struggling right now, especially in this economy. It looks exhausting. Children are amazing, but if someone doesn’t want to be a 24/7 caretaker, they shouldn’t be," commented @savannahandria.

@sarahashleynelson obviously not all women hate motherhood - but i think it’s super damaging for mothers to constantly be weighing in and telling other women to just “go for it” and shamimg other women for questioning motherhood when so many women have no idea what they are getting themselves into and they end up drowning and potentially hating their choice to become a mother. so many mothers don’t want to acknowledge that is a real struggle that a lot of mothers go through and ultimately, it’s keeping women stuck and unsupported #chappellroan #callherdaddy #pregnancytiktok #momadvice #childless #childlessbychoice #prochoice #motherhood #CapCut ♬ original sound - Sarah Ashley
