Sometimes, trusting your instincts can make all the difference. Stephen Doody wasn't looking for trouble when he left home with his wife. But one driver's behavior near two young girls kept nagging at him. Although he wasn't sure if anything was wrong, he decided the feeling was too strong to ignore. In a video posted on August 5, 2026, on his handle @steph_doody, Stephen explained why he followed the car and how the girls' response later convinced him he had made the right decision.
Stephen explained that he and his wife were leaving for an appointment when they noticed two girls, who looked to be around 13 years old, playing soccer in a field near their house. As they drove away, he spotted a man in his 40s in his car moving unusually slowly past the girls, holding up traffic while staring in their direction. Although he couldn't explain exactly why, Stephen said something about the man's behavior didn't sit right with him. Stephen drove up to the two girls and warned them that a stranger in his car had been driving slowly back and forth, staring in their direction. To his surprise, the girls told Stephen they had already noticed the same car passing several times and agreed that the man's behavior felt "weird."
Stephen said he only warned the girls after following the driver to make sure he wasn't imagining things. When the man first drove away, Stephen told his wife that if he turned around, he would follow him. Moments later, the driver made a U-turn, and Stephen decided to follow him. At first, he wondered if the man might simply be lost. But when the driver slowed down near the girls again, with no traffic or houses demanding his attention, Stephen got suspicious and decided to watch over the girls. He noted the make and model of the car and believed his home's security cameras may have captured the license plate.
Looking back, Stephen said he was relieved the girls had been aware of their surroundings, but he still felt it was important to speak up. As a father to a daughter, he said he hoped someone would do the same for her. He added, "If you see something, say something," encouraging people not to stay silent when a child may be in danger.
