Coworker suddenly had an allergic reaction despite packing a safe lunch — then the wild truth exposed the office food thief
People with food allergies have to remain vigilant, since even a small amount of an allergen can be dangerous for them. One workplace incident took a strange turn when an employee suddenly developed an allergic reaction after eating their lunch. At first, the coworkers could not understand what had caused it. Comedian and content creator Jessica Liz shared the incident on Instagram on May 31, 2026, under her handle @thejessicaliz. She explained how the truth came out after the reaction raised questions among everyone at work. What first looked like a sudden health issue soon became a much bigger workplace concern.
Liz explained in her video that one coworker had brought satay for lunch, while another had spaghetti. About an hour later, the person who ate the spaghetti suffered an allergic reaction to peanuts. The reason soon became clear: another coworker had been taking food from several people's lunches and had used the same fork while doing so. Some satay ended up in the spaghetti, but the person whose lunch it was had a peanut allergy. Liz said the employee was clearly in the wrong for taking others' food and using the same utensil, which also raised hygiene concerns.
The Instagram user further questioned why anyone would do such a thing in the first place and take another person's lunch without permission, especially when doing so could put someone's health at risk. A careless action involving someone's lunch can have serious consequences, as the incident showed. The story also raised concerns about trust among coworkers, since employees should be able to expect that their personal items will remain untouched. Ignoring simple boundaries can create a dangerous problem for someone who did nothing wrong. In an update video, Liz revealed that the lunch thief was suspended for three days.
Apparently, lunch theft is a common issue in some offices, but one employee decided to put an end to it in their own way. In another incident, a worker grew tired of finding parts of their lunch missing from the shared office fridge. The thief would take the best parts of meals and leave the rest behind, making it hard for anyone to catch them. After regular complaints and warnings from management failed, the employee chose a different approach. They packed their lunch in several small containers and taped them together into a strange-looking bundle. A note asked anyone opening it to "re-tape it the same way."

The unusual setup seemed to work. The next day, the tape had been cut, and the containers were scattered, but no food was missing. After that day, the lunch bundle was left alone. Within about a week, the worker noticed that their meals were not being targeted. They admitted the method required extra effort, but it solved the problem without creating a bigger argument at work. As they explained, "It worked without poisoning anyone or starting a big office drama." They also added that the thief was "just lazy, and my lunch stopped being an easy win."
