Preparing children to deal with emergencies often comes in handy for parents. A 2-year-old girl's actions when her dad had a hypoglycaemic episode showed that she had actually been paying attention during her emergency lessons. At first, the little girl was screaming and crying because her dad could not move. But soon enough, she remembered how she could solve the issue and ended up saving her dad's life. The entire incident was captured on a baby cam and shared on the girl, Zab's, TikTok account (@growwithzab).

In the video, the child was trying to shake her unconscious father to wake him up. She was panicky and trying to get her dad to move, but that did not seem to work. She seemed to remember something at one point as she got off the bed and ran to the living room. Zab got a box from one of the shelves and ran back to her dad. The girl took something out of the box and put it in her dad's mouth. Soon enough, her dad was moving a little bit. In the end, she told herself, "When daddy is hypo, give chocolate and sweets." The text overlay of the video read, "So proud to show the world how smart and brave you are, Zab."

"She's only 2 years old, but she already knows how to help her daddy during a low blood sugar episode," the caption explained. "Without being told, she grabbed my glucose tablets and made me chew them—concerned, focused, and so full of love." Watching her respond to the incident took her parents' "breath away." It went on, "This tiny human is growing up with such empathy and strength, shaped by what she sees every day. It's heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. Moments like these remind us: kids are always watching, always learning and sometimes, they become our little heroes." In one of the comments, the parents shared that they were both full-time nurses and did alternate days off. "Not like we are raising her to be dad's caregiver, but it won't hurt if we teach her what to do in situations like this."

@growwithzab @Ymmanuel Demegillo She’s only 2 years old, but she already knows how to help her daddy during a low blood sugar episode. Without being told, she grabbed my glucose tablets and made me chew them—concerned, focused, and so full of love. She even reminded herself at the end of the video - “When daddy is hypo, give chocolate and sweets” 🥹 Watching her respond like that took my breath away. In another video, the dad, Ymannuel Demegillo (@ymanurse), clarified that his daughter saved him from the episode, but they hadn't put the sole responsibility to help him on her "tiny shoulders." He explained, "What we are doing is teaching her little stuff that could help in an emergency." They didn't expect her to be a hero, but they believed that "even tiny hands can do big things when they feel safe, loved and prepared." They were not "handing her the family's medical chart" but showing her slowly and age-appropriately how to call for help or grab something if her dad didn't feel well. The dad expressed, "Let's cheer for our little ones as they shine, not shame the families trying to do their best."

People shared their thoughts on the incident in the comments. @oyaizppiz wrote, "As an early childhood educator, I commend you for raising a little hero. I firmly believe that character building starts at an early age. You raised her so well. Hugs to your little princess." @lizbailey465 commented, "I am very glad that your daughter was able to help you. She is truly an awesome little girl." @stacelherrisson remarked, "Great job, Zab. Great job, Mom and Dad, at raising such a smart and brave human."

@growwithzab @Ymmanuel Demegillo Taking a moment to respond with kindness and perspective. No child is ever responsible for a parent’s health. Let’s be more mindful with our words. In this video, I’m responding to comments that falsely claim that we placed too much responsibility on a child for her father’s health. That couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s easy to misunderstand situations from a viral clip — but before passing judgment, take a moment to hear the full story. Watch with an open heart before you assume. Let’s lead with understanding, not blame. #StopTheBlame #ParentingWithCare #ProtectOurKids #ContextMatters #ChooseCompassion #WatchBeforeYouJudge #growwithzab #foryoupage❤️❤️ #fyp #HypoglycemiaAwareness #ParentingMoments #Type1Diabetes #ParentingMoments ♬ original sound - growwithzab
