Dad stressing about keeping up with family's busy group chat sends the ultimate 'I'm out' text

Family group chats are one of the most unhinged communication spaces ever. Everything from milestones, news to even slip-ups and arguments is relentlessly carried out among family members. While the tech-savvy youngsters are all in with the same, some dads find it tough to keep up with the unending notifications beeping on their phones, much less responding to each of them. Dr. Thomas D’Orazio, an eye surgeon and dad who has a group chat with his wife and two daughters, was done after the continuous threshold of messages that came in, per TODAY. He shared the ultimate message on the group for his family and it’s the most dad thing ever.

One of his daughters, who goes by @snackl3t on X, shared a glimpse of his unexpected text that has us bawling with laughter. It read, “I can’t keep up with the pressure of always having to ‘lol’ or ‘like’ or ‘heart’ everyone’s random thoughts, pictures and amusements,” the dad said. He continued to express his frustration with the incoming overload of messages that kept his phone buzzing and how defeated he felt responding to every text. Then, as any dad would do, he came up with a solution, an unusual one, if you will.

“For all future texts: I love them, laugh at them or like them, unless it’s bad, then I dislike them, in perpetuity. I can’t live with this pressure. I’m out,” he wrote. The man had enough and ensured he gave a response while figuring some relief for himself too. Not so much the easy way out but definitely the hysterical way out. His daughter, Allison, revealed that she “burst out laughing” at the powerful message which was signed, “A grumpy guy from the pre-cellphone era.” Sharing more behind the story, the woman explained that he had a valid reason to give up. “I was sending pictures of every single stitch I was doing on a sewing project,” she noted.

While the mom and sister were all in on the topic, the dad was puzzled by the unending flow of texts. “The three of us are very extroverted and send random stuff all day long,” Allison explained. However, when the dad couldn’t keep up with the ruckus, he eventually called out. “He’s so kind and engaged with our lives — he's like the perfect human being — and I think it was stressing him out that he can't respond to all the messages,” his daughter added.

In a follow-up thread, the woman revealed that her dad took his word pretty seriously. Maybe not all of it, as he didn't actually leave the group. However, he was honest about being done with checking and responding to the barrage of messages. He stayed true to his message and in response to a text that followed, he wrote, “I ain’t reading all that. I’m happy for you though. Or, sorry that happened.” @KwaniALunis wrote, “Is this a dad thing? My dad called me to tell me he didn’t like group chats.” @Embrace_ofChaos added, “Good for him for even trying. He's more patient than I ever was. I told my family to remove me from the group chat after the 3rd message.”
