Devastated 5-year-old lost wallet containing savings for a special gift — then strangers on Facebook turned his world upside down

Many of us might recall how eagerly we looked forward to saving up for something as kids. A mom named Sarah Campbell shared a post on Facebook about her 5-year-old son, Avery, who was eager for something similar. The little boy had been saving money in his wallet for a special gift. Unfortunately, he lost the wallet and all the money he had collected, leaving him in despair. His mom shared a plea, requesting anyone who found it to return it or to share its whereabouts. To her surprise, strangers showed up and united on the social media platform to yield a wonderful outcome.

Campbell revealed that her son had a Trifold Canvas sports wallet with a camouflage design. He had been using the wallet and saving up money in it for a special gift. Avery had saved up his “Tooth fairy money” but when he "went to Sam’s," he lost the wallet. She mentioned that it had not been returned to customer service yet. She also made an earnest plea saying, “If anyone picked this up, please return it to customer service. He’s devastated.” Strangers who saw the post shared and reacted to it, trying to pitch in. Many people knew they might not be able to retrieve the wallet, but wanted to do everything to ensure the boy’s hard work to save, along with his hopes, didn’t go in vain.

Many strangers offered solutions to cheer up the boy. While some suggested pitching in, others offered to help buy his gift for him. A woman named Tracey Prettyman-Adams commented, “Send me the link for the wallet and I will replace that. How much money was in it? I want this kid to think that there are still good people in this world.” Many people found this solution to be one of the best, as it would keep intact the boy’s hopes and help him feel like the gift was bought with his hard work. Katherine Yates Quann wrote, “There are. You just proved that fact.”

Many others also responded generously, requesting the person who found the wallet to return it. 3 Kirk Dachs said that they would be happy to pitch in, too. “I no longer live in Lynchburg but I have two special-needs boys and this is something close to my heart. I’ve had them lose things so I know how it feels,” the comment read. Jeannie Brown wrote, “Please give it back to this boy. Don't spend the money, just return it. Be a bigger person.” Deborah G. Phipps said, “So hoping he gets his wallet and money back. Bless his heart.” Within a few days, the mom was delighted to share an update.

She said, “Thank you again Tracey Prettyman-Adams for ordering Avery a replacement wallet! Thank you to everyone who rallied behind my boy, he now has enough for his bike!” A mishap that could have dashed a little heart turned into a triumphant victory for humanity. Carrie Ann Underwood rightfully remarked, “Such a bunch of good humans on this post. Warms my heart.”
