Dog helped owner take care of baby all night — then did the most human thing ever

Pets are known to stand by their human through thick and thin. However, one mom hadn't thought that her golden retriever, Teddy, would give up on his sleep to stay by her side during her daughter's newborn phase. Teddy woke up for every single feeding with the mom, Tori Harley, who goes by @itstoriharley on TikTok. Nonetheless, at one point, Teddy was so tired of being awake all the time that he ended up showing borderline hilarious signs of sleep deprivation. Tori shared quite a few photos of the time through a post on the platform. It received over 1.4 million views.

"Late night finds, but it is my dog's state of exhaustion from doing the newborn phase with me," the text overlay of the video read. In one photo, Teddy had fallen asleep in the middle of a staircase with a toy still inside his mouth. In another one, he was watching over the baby's bassinet with the most tired eyes. In many photos, the dog looked really exhausted or had fallen asleep in the most awkward positions possible. "He got up for every feeding with me. I am literally crying, this is so funny," the caption read. The mom told Newsweek that her dog's antics and exhaustion at that time were almost "human-like."

"I had never seen a dog as tired as he was before; it was almost human-like. I knew he wanted to sleep, but he just would not let her out of his sight. Anytime he would walk around, it was like he was moping around the house, wondering, 'When are we going to bed?'" the mom explained. Now, even though Teddy had to power through his exhaustion, he became a big source of comfort for Tori. "It gets very lonely doing it by yourself. However, anytime I turned around, it seemed he was right at my feet with me, telling me, 'You got this, mom!' I could tell he was tired of being there and was overall exhausted, but he definitely made a commitment to go to her nursery with me every time. It was so sweet."

Teddy was really excited to meet his newborn sister for the very first time as well. "Immediately, he was so excited and knew that I had someone with me. After he settled down, he licked my daughter and snuggled his head up as close as he could. I knew that he thought of her as his own." People commended Teddy's dedication and shared their own similar experiences in the comments section of the post. @lolamarula wrote, "With the first kid, my dog was with me every step of the way. With the fourth kid, he moved out of my bedroom and didn't come back until the baby slept through the night."

@itsmeambezzy commented, "My brother's dog was so fed up with my niece that he moved his bed from the family room to the closet in their primary. Went back to grab his blanket and shut the door to the closet. He was over it." @triciapaquin remarked, "People forget how much of a change the pets go through when a baby comes home. They are troopers." Tori often shares glimpses of her life with Teddy and her baby. In one video, she shared how Teddy tried to get her attention whenever she started playing with her daughter.
