Drunk man hitting on a lesbian asked her genderfluid partner if they were a ‘girl or a boy’ — their one-word answer wasn’t what he saw coming

They went out to celebrate, but the unwanted interaction led to an unexpected turn of events.

The most epic comebacks are either silent or short and crisp. You don't always need loud responses to shut entitled people down. A Reddit user ended up putting an obnoxious stranger in his place in a similar manner. During a night out with friends, a man refused to leave one woman in the group alone, and one quick response turned the awkward encounter into the most memorable moment. Sharing the story under the handle u/Electronic_Theme_558 on Saturday, August 1, 2026, they shared how the exchange left the drunk person completely at a loss for words.

The person, who identified as an androgynous transmasculine genderfluid, explained that they had gone to a gay bar with their partners and buddies after learning that what they feared might be breast cancer turned out to be a cyst and a bacterial infection. While they were celebrating, a drunk, creepy man tried to approach one of their girlfriends. She walked away to her group, hoping the interaction would end. Instead, he tried to disturb the rest of the group. That's when the user stepped in to defend the woman, only to be asked whether they were "a girl or a boy." They simply answered, "Neither." Frustrated, the man responded, "Keep saying that and your girlfriend won't want to date you." The look on his face was priceless when the same individual kissed the female, and another woman right after that exchange.

The man's eyes widened as he tried to process what had just happened before he finally walked away without another word. According to the post, the evening ended with the same creep eventually being kicked out of the bar after he started another confrontation with a different couple. After a stressful week, the person said it felt like an unexpectedly satisfying way to celebrate the good news about their health. What the group experienced also relates to findings from a study published in the British Journal of Social Psychology. Researchers found that many people subconsciously think of heterosexual relationships as the default when they picture romantic love.

The study suggested that this assumption can influence how people interpret couples, making same-gender connections less likely to fit their immediate expectations. Many Reddit users found the exchange both satisfying and amusing. u/Separate_Security472 pointed out the irony of the situation, writing, "The dude was in a gay bar, had no right to be surprised." u/Shannaro21 wrote, "Love that for you. I wish I got to that point, but my voice is not androgynous enough to keep the people guessing." u/NatashOverWorld noted, "Congrats on the double victory."
