Firefighters salvaged just one thing that belonged to a little girl after her family car burst into flames — it left her mom in tears
When a fire breaks out, it is nearly impossible to salvage anything. However, when a fire broke out in Kingwood, West Virginia, the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department managed to save one essential item that belonged to a girl from a burning car. The incident happened at around 9:43 p.m. in Kingwood, West Virginia. Mom Brittany Turner's car had burst into flames, which prompted the family to immediately call the fire department. Reported by WDTV 5 News on March 25, 2026, the response and quick thinking from the crew have now brought the girl's mother to tears.
When the Kingwood Volunteer Fire Department arrived, the firefighters quickly got the fire under control. However, Turner's daughter, Kynzie Jade, had left her school backpack in the car, which had paperwork for her test. While it is usually impossible to retrieve items from a fire, the firefighters' prompt response allowed them to recover the backpack before it was destroyed. The mother who commented on the Facebook post expressed her gratitude. "It's honestly amazing that the only thing that was able to be saved was her paperwork for her test this morning, and because of you, she was able to go on and ace that test," Turner wrote.
The girl who also commented under the post thanked the firefighters and wrote, "That was me in my mom's car, and I just want to say thank you, guys, for putting the fire out and letting me get what was left out of my backpack." In the video released by the fire department, the crew reached the scene where the car was seen engulfed in flames. While the front of the car was burning, the rear of the vehicle remained unaffected. Before it was too late, the firefighters retrieved the girl's backpack, which ultimately helped keep her belongings safe.
A study published in Open Access Pub noted how efficient firefighters are in handling fire emergencies. "When a fire or other emergency strikes, they are on the scene battling flames, smoke, collapsing walls, chemical explosions, and numerous other threats," the report reads. As mentioned in the report, describing firefighters without the word "hero" would be difficult. If it weren't for their quick response, the student would have lost her backpack in the fire.
Soon after the fire department posted the video, many users praised the firefighters for their quick response. Nicole Cosco wrote, "Y'all were so quick to respond last night! I sat on my porch listening to the scanner, praying for everyone involved, as I live right down the street from where this happened!" Michael Hawkins commented, "Thank you for doing firefighter things... not many people who can do them." Ellen White wrote, "Great response and consideration for the student."
