Girl was heartbroken when dad stood her up for father-daughter dance again—until her brother decided to set things right

A small gesture might mean a lot to a kid and even turn into a core memory. An older brother made a special memory with his little sister when their dad didn't show up to take her to the father-daughter dance. Their mom, Trelysia Hamerter, was worried when her daughter was dead set on going to the dance with her dad. Her ex-partner hadn't shown up for her daughter, Skylar, the previous year and she was doubtful he'd show up the year after. That's when her 11-year-old son, Christian, stepped in to save the day, per a Facebook post by the mom.

"This is the 2nd year that my daughter’s father stood her up for the Daddy/ daughter dance," the mom wrote. The 7-year-old had been looking forward to the event in Covington, Georgia, for months, per TODAY.com. It made the mom really worried about what would happen in case the dad didn't show up. "So this year she comes to me ahead of time and says, 'Mommy, I want my dad to come with me to the dance. I don’t want grandpa. I want my dad, I want everyone to know I have a dad,'" Trelysia recounted. The mom had hoped that the girl's dad wouldn't let her down this time. But she had started to worry after her ex-partner hadn't picked up the phone on the days leading up to the dance.

The woman was in tears because she was upset about disappointing her daughter. "I felt so bad because there was nothing I could do because I’m not a male." But then, Christian saw his mom crying and asked her what had happened. "If he doesn’t show, mom, I’d like to take Skylar to the dance...she deserves to know that a man can keep his word and that she’s really special," the boy told his mom. The mom and son picked a suit for the boy in case the man didn't show up for Skylar. It also matched the girl's gold dress perfectly. Unfortunately, the dad actually didn't show up the next day, but the girl's brother was all set to take her to the dance.
The brother and sister went to the dance and had a great time at the event. "Y’all I literally cried," the proud mom pointed out in the Facebook post. "Just know that I’m raising someone to be a great husband one day." Skylar was wearing a beautiful gold dress in the photo and her brother was wearing a blue suit with a gold bow tie to match the girl's dress. People applauded the young boy in the comments section of the post. Kristy Wilson wrote, "You are raising two beautiful children inside and out! Keep up the hard work! It’s not easy doing it right, much less doing it alone! Proud of you girl!"
Rhonda Zeigler commented, "You got this, niece, it’s in you. If I can raise 5 kids and put them through college, I know damn well you can. God isn’t going to put you through anything that you can’t bear. You got this." MaWanda Polite remarked, "That is so beautiful. She will become stronger as she gets older. Right to keep doing what you are doing as a mother. She’ll see it all once she gets older. He’ll be the one who will need her." Nyasia Hayes shared, "This is beautiful! She looks beautiful and he is so handsome! You are doing a great job mom."
