There have been several instances of women going into labor midair, leading to childbirth on flights. In a similar incident, a woman flying from Kingston, Jamaica, to New York City delivered a healthy baby on board. However, when the pilot informed the ground control, they picked a perfect name for the baby, which got the pilot's approval instantly. Reported by CBS Mornings on April 6, 2026, the baby was suggested to be named after the airport where the flight was supposed to land.

Caribbean Airlines flight BW005, which was flying from Kingston, Jamaica, on April 4, 2026, was about to descend towards New York when a heavily pregnant passenger went into labor. She gave birth to a healthy baby midair, before the flight could declare an emergency. The pilot radioed to the air traffic controller at the John F. Kennedy International Airport, stating that the woman was going into labor. After a while, the pilot confirmed that the baby was out, to which the controller replied, "Tell her she's got to name it Kennedy," which immediately drew laughter and approval from the pilot.

A study published on ResearchGate noted that around 74 births have taken place on 73 commercial flights between 1929 and 2018, with two babies unfortunately not surviving. About 77% of these flights were international, and roughly 26% had to be diverted due to in-flight births. Deliveries occurred between 25 and 38 weeks of pregnancy, with 10% at 37-38 weeks, 16% at 34-36 weeks, 19% at 31-33 weeks, and 12% happening before 32 weeks. People shared many reactions to the controller's unique name suggestion.

@vivisantosinamerica mentioned, "That was a great suggestion! Wow to her delivering a baby in an airplane. I am glad it all went well." @misscee2020 wrote, "How in the world they let her fly, and she was due any minute they to stop and be more serious about the months a person can fly back in the latter years people were only allowed to fly if 6 months pregnant with a doctor's permission." @varuiz2601 penned, "Kennedy is a perfect name for either male or female. If that were me, that would be my baby's name. God bless all who were on that flight and mom and baby." @indie_s_mac remarked, "I thought there is a time frame when you are not allowed to fly if you are pregnant."
