Fate has a funny way of making things happen. When we’re told to trust the process and let things work in their time, we often don’t understand the 'why' behind it. In some cases, it may take just a split second for things to work out but often, it takes decades, or even half a century like it did for Paula Beer and Jim Tiltman, as per BBC. Tiltman had an uncertain life from the time he was in his mother’s womb. However, as he grew up, he had one wish, to be reunited with his biological mother, Paula Beer. While it took time, things worked out beautifully to make the duo find their way to each other after 50 long years.

Going back to 1967, Beer was only 17 years old when she realized she was pregnant. Having no option but to keep it hidden, she went to live with her aunt who supported and helped her through the pregnancy. Despite bonding with and vouching for her baby to come into the world, keeping and raising him was not in the cards for Beer. "I spoke to him every day. I thought if I keep talking to you, telling him 'I love him' every day then he would remember my voice," she said. A few days after birthing her son whom she named Paul back then, he was taken from her to be handed over to an adoption agency.

Wanting the best for her son, she painfully let him go. After being in foster care for a few weeks, Paul found a new home and family through adoption. Remembering her last time with her son at his new home, Beer recalled, “I tore myself away from him and as I walked out the door, I slammed it as hard as I could because I didn't want him to be left alone.” Years later, after constantly pondering the thought of her son, she contacted the “ITV: Long Lost Family,” a TV show. They came over and interviewed the hopeful mother. However, it had been 50 years, and the baby boy had undoubtedly moved on in his life.

His adoptive family had died and the man was all grown-up. Paul, Beer’s son, had his name changed to Jim Tiltman, but when he received the letter about Beer looking for a “Paul,” he was taken aback. Knowing his birth name, he assumed it would be a relative trying to contact him. “I thought it may have been a sister but it blew my mind when I found out my mother was trying to contact me,” he remarked.

Soon, time collided for the two and they finally met in person. “I was so excited. When I walked into the room he walked over to me and gave me a hug. He then called me mum. I couldn't believe it, he called me mum. He held my hand the whole time of that meeting,” Beer exclaimed. A reunion overwhelmed with emotion, new faces and a love longing for 50 years. "I can't explain the connection I had with her when we held hands. I can't believe it. I have a mum," Tiltman exclaimed. The duo plan to spend their time together and can’t wait to be a part of the rest of each other’s lives.
