He feared his husband’s secret Saturday mornings meant he was having an affair — until the truth left him laughing through tears
Secrets in relationships often trigger the same uncomfortable question: what happens when someone you love suddenly becomes difficult to read? Especially when a noticeable change in routine goes unexplained, suspicions of infidelity are not uncommon. TikTok user Eli McCann, who goes by @eliwmccann, shared one such story about his husband on June 14, 2025. According to McCann, shortly after they got married, his husband began disappearing for several hours every Saturday morning without offering much of an explanation. The mystery continued long enough for his imagination to run wild until he discovered the silly truth, according to Newsweek.
As it turned out, the secret destination was far less scandalous than McCann had imagined. In his video, he explained that every time he asked where his husband was going on Saturday mornings, he was met with responses such as "none of your business" or "stop asking me." The evasiveness only fueled his suspicions. Eventually, the creator confronted him directly and asked the question that had been building in his mind for months: was he having an affair? That was when his husband finally confessed that he had been secretly attending weekly Dungeons & Dragons sessions with his friends.
The husband had avoided telling the truth because he was embarrassed and feared being teased for the hobby. McCann later explained that this wasn't a suspicion that appeared out of nowhere. His husband's mysterious Saturday disappearances had been going on for nearly a year, maybe even longer, and the secrecy was driving him crazy. Eventually, he sat him down and said he needed the truth, no matter what it was.
When he finally learned that the secret was a weekly Dungeons & Dragons group, McCann's reaction was priceless. He joked that he wished his husband had been having an affair instead. Of course, he was kidding, but who would have guessed that the mystery keeping him awake at night turned out to be a tabletop fantasy game? Sometimes the truth is far less dramatic and much funnier than the stories we create in our heads.
The comment section had a few hilarious reactions. @ardendaneille said, "I knew it! Thankfully, it’s a green flag. It’s nice he has a hobby," while @clutchmi commented, "Honestly, I would lie about that too." @floppedinstyle wrote, "I would feel deeply hurt he never invited me if I were you." The stigma surrounding Dungeons & Dragons players has persisted to this day, largely because of long-standing claims linking the game to Satanism and other controversies.
Research published in Frontiers in Psychology notes that tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons, once considered niche or socially marginalized, are increasingly becoming mainstream, much like comic books, cosplay, and other formerly misunderstood or weird hobbies. Therefore, what looked like a relationship crisis turned out to be nothing more than a husband protecting a hobby he thought might earn him some teasing. The story serves as a funny reminder that when information is missing, our imaginations often come up with explanations far more dramatic than reality ever could.
