Heartbroken mom's open letter to ex-husband's new girlfriend before she meets their kids is a must-read
One of the hardest parts of separating from one’s partner is having to separately raise kids. Instead of having a united home, parents are forced to raise their kids in two different realities, with added members. As hopeful as this can be, it is a bittersweet experience for parents. A mom named Erica Keane, who separated from her partner after 15 years of marriage, revealed that she had two beautiful daughters, per PEOPLE. The mom added that her ex-husband had a new girlfriend and the girls were soon to meet her for the first time. As the mom couldn’t connect with her and had no idea who she was, she publicly shared a tear-jerking message as a “letter to my ex-husband’s girlfriend.”
In tears, Keane shared a video with her powerful open letter. "I haven't met you yet, but today's the first day that you're going to meet my girls! I want to say thank you, first of all, for opening your home to them and being willing to give them a place to stay so they could spend time with their dad,” the mom began. Keane further mentioned that she didn’t know who the woman was, nor had she seen or had any contact with her. However, she hoped best that they could have a unique and healthy bond to develop. “It’s just weird with kids, another person involved, different states and so on,” the mom noted.
Moving on, Keane spoke about her two daughters, Kaitlyn, who is 14, and Avery, who is 9. Starting with Avery, she pointed out the things her daughter liked and disliked and what made her unique. “She brought her accessories and her brushes and all her things in her little tiny suitcase and said she can’t wait to show them to you!” she explained. The mom also shared unique and unusual details about her daughters to prepare and offer warm guidance for the woman who was going to be a part of her kids’ lives. “She’s really precious, you’ll have a lot of fun with her,” the mom noted.
Keane then spoke about Kaitlyn and shared that she is more of a wise and calm teen. “When she speaks, you want to listen,” she added. "But she does have that teenage attitude. So if you need anything on that, let me know,” Keane said. The mom explained in her video that she was looking forward to the adventures they would have. However, she noted that her kids would need some space to figure out what's going on in the family dynamic. “They’ve been through a lot this year,” she said. Though the mom was looking forward to her kids’ having a new life, she was broken to think about how things were going to be. Her mix of emotions moved her to tears and smiles, which she strongly held.
The mom was sure to add that she was thankful for her ex-husband’s girlfriend. "I wanted her to see my character, and yes, I wanted her to know that I do not hold animosity or grudges, and I'm good," she explained. In conclusion, the mom requested the woman contact her and be in touch about her kids. “It’s important we made decisions together- all three of us,” she said. “Going forward is the best part because we get to recreate,” she remarked. She needed her message saying, “Welcome to the best part of my life- my girls. Have fun with them, love them. I look forward to meeting you.”
