Her male classmates argued breastfeeding in public was ‘gross’ during a debate — until her one remark about a woman’s body left them speechless
Moms often face the challenge of being judged and frowned upon by society, especially when they breastfeed their babies in public. Facebook user Taylor Black, during her college years, was debating this topic when she noticed that most men were irked by the subject. They openly expressed their “disgust” during the discussion. However, when Black made one remark about a woman’s body, it left them dumbstruck. Sharing the incident with her Facebook following on December 14, 2025, Black revealed that she had never seen men collectively go speechless over something in her entire life.
Taylor Black recalled an incident from her college days, which made an entire debate come to a standstill with just one remark of hers. During one of her history classes, the students were debating whether or not breastfeeding in public is considered appropriate. She said several of the male students, who thought breastfeeding in public was "gross," suggested women find a private space, such as a restroom, to feed their babies. Their stance did not sit well with Black, who decided to call out what she viewed as hypocrisy. She responded, "Wow, it's amazing how men find the display of a woman's body to be good until it is no longer for their pleasure."
As soon as she voiced it, the whole group of men in her class fell silent. While some opened their mouths to defend themselves, they failed to make a point and eventually stopped trying. "I have never seen so many men shut up, and then open their mouths to defend themselves, and have nothing come out, in my life," she shared. After Black’s video gained traction, many users joined the discussion and addressed the subtle misogyny they had observed around breastfeeding in public.
@Joakim Persson mentioned, "Those who say babies can breastfeed in the toilets can take their plates and go there by themselves." @Brian O'Sullivan commented, "Why are Americans still having that conversation? I think across Europe and the UK, we had that conversation from the 1960s to 1990s." @Joe Taco added, "That's true and funny when you point it out. I get to do that to groups of young men regularly in treatment."
Public breastfeeding is still stigmatized in many communities, even though it’s a normal part of parenting. In another story, a young mother named Melanie Dudley was asked to "cover up" in hot weather while she was breastfeeding her baby. But her response shut their mouths. In a post shared by her mother-in-law, Dudley was vacationing and breastfeeding her baby in high temperatures when she removed her shirt to stay cool.
She was approached by a stranger who asked her to cover up. Dudley, stunned by the request, responded with sarcasm. She took a nursing cover from her husband and put it over her head to "cover up." Dudley's sarcastic response won hearts online, and many users called out the stranger's unsolicited advice.
