Husband learned a group of teens had harassed his wife at the HOA pool — instead of losing his temper, his response made them apologize
When it comes to reprimanding youngsters, how we approach the situation makes a difference. It can teach them that an act is wrong or show them how to do better. Facebook user and dad Chris Cheema, who goes by @chrissinghcheema, shared a post on July 11, 2026, explaining how he dealt with a bunch of disrespectful teenagers. The group used profane language while interacting with his wife at the HOA pool. When she later told Cheema, he was furious. However, instead of yelling at them or acting impulsively, he took an approach that had the internet applauding.
After hearing about what happened, Cheema texted his HOA group, asking all the men — dads, grandpas, everybody — to show up at the pool to confront the young men. When he called the boys over, he told them he didn’t know what they were thinking, or what their relationship was with their dads. However, as a father and husband himself, he had to let them know that their actions were disrespectful. Almost like a dad correcting his kids, he explained why their behavior was unacceptable. Toward the end, he added, “I love you guys, and I’m for you.” The men also showed up, not to frighten the kids but to set an example of how gentlemen should behave.
Even after the woman repeatedly asked them to stop, the boys kept harassing her with mean and reckless words. When Cheema learned about it, he was enraged, not just by their behavior, but also because HOA rules specify that such language is prohibited in the common areas. However, when it came to dealing with the situation, he knew he had two options — go off on the teenagers or show leadership. He chose the latter. He emphasized in the gentlest manner that such behavior would not be tolerated in the community. One of the boys eventually owned up and apologized.
It was later revealed that the rest of the group didn’t live there and were friends of the teen. Cheema clearly informed him that he was responsible for who he brought into the neighborhood. What the dad noticed was that the kids had developed a healthy fear, one that seemed to indicate they understood why they were being reprimanded. According to the Child Mind Institute, how you correct teenagers can impact their personality and development. Clinical Psychologist Morgan Eldridge, PhD, explained, “Adolescence is a period of time where kids are testing boundaries, they’re sorting through their values and identity.”
The expert noted that harsh punishments and shaming rarely help, stating, “Ultimately, that doesn’t lead to long-term progress for the kid.” “The goal was to disciple these teenagers,” Cheema added. While he knew he had to stand up for his family, he also knew he had to ensure the kids took away a lesson so they didn’t turn into men, spouses, or dads who were ignorant and reckless.
That’s what commenters loved. @AmyC2026 said, “Those boys now have an example in their lives.” @abby.rogers.9829 remarked, “I love that you made it a teaching moment. Most men would have screamed or yelled or puffed up.” @megan.skeletonparr wrote, “You didn’t just chastise them. You loved, respected, and showed them they were worth your time and your care.”
