An attempt to alert people about distressful situations can change the course of events in quite a few scenarios. A jogger managed to do something like that when a family was out of town and their house was on fire. The man noticed the smoke coming from the top of the house and decided to alert the family about it. The incident was captured on the family's ring doorbell camera and the man's quick action helped save all of the family's pets, per WTHR.

"I saw him running back and forth. So I answered it and he said, 'Hello, do you see there's smoke coming out of the top of your house?'" Courtney Polito, the homeowner, recounted. The woman realized that all of the smoke alarms were going off at her house and she gave the man the code to let him enter the house. He went in and saved two dachshunds, a rabbit and a cat. Polito was grateful that the man was there, or they would have lost everything because of the fire. "The fire department said 10 more minutes and the house would have been gone." The family was also quite surprised that the man readily went inside a burning house to save the pets.

"It takes a special kind of person to go into a burning house to save animals," the woman's husband, Tony, expressed. He also helped contain the fire to the garage of the house because of his quick alert to the fire department. However, there was smoke damage throughout the place. "This is the first for our agency where someone uses a Ring doorbell system to alert 911 and the homeowners," Andrew LoFranco, Scotts Valley Battalion Chief, revealed. However, before the family could thank the good Samaritan for saving their pets and their house, the person was off and running. So they requested to blur the man's face, in case he didn't want to reveal his identity.

"I want to give him a hug. I'll bring him to lunch. I'll bring him dinner. I don't know... I just want to thank him so much and let him know how thankful we are. My kids, my husband, we would be devastated if we lost our pets, let alone our home," Polito expressed. No one in the family was home at that time and Polito answered the man after he rang the doorbell and she decided to answer her Ring doorbell camera, per the New York Post. After he entered the house, the man saved the pets and could be seen running with the dogs under his arm to take them to a safe place. The firefighter crew was also grateful for what the man did to help them.

A complete stranger decided to do a similar thing for a woman stuck inside a burning building in another case of fire. People were running away from the building engulfed in smoke and flames when the man started running towards it, per CBS 8 News. That one action was quite surprising for all the bystanders present at the scene. The man, Erik Mendez, lived down the street from the building and had decided to go inside in hopes of helping anyone who was stuck there. He didn't really have a specific person in mind while he ran in, but ended up saving a woman's life with his brave gesture. He had spotted a person covered in a blanket and decided to run out with her, saving her life.
