She explained that her son has a disability and tends to be easily scared by non-human characters.

Differently-abled children often require greater sensitivity. Like any other child, they have their own desires and wish to be heard and understood. A woman named Susan (@suzgeoghegan) shared a similar incident on Instagram on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She and her blind son had gone to a princess-themed brunch. When she saw princess gift bags being distributed to everyone, she asked the waitress for a similar bag for her son. However, the waitress's response was not what Susan expected, leaving her extremely upset.

Susan began by explaining that her legally blind son, Benji, was the "only prince" at the princess-themed brunch. She shared that her son has a disability and was easily frightened by non-human characters. While Mickey Mouse scared him, he liked princesses because they talked like humans and were friendly. Aware of her son’s preferences, when Susan noticed every other table receiving a Princess gift bag from the organizers, she asked the waitress, “Could he get one?” In response, the waitress said, "Oh, do you think he'd like one?"

This reaction left the mother of the blind son in a state of both confusion and despair. “My question is, was she saying that because he was a boy, or because he’s disabled?” she said. Both of the cases appeared irrational to her as she added, “I don’t know which one is better or worse.” Susan then put forth a straightforward argument that carried values of inclusivity for all. She said that if goodie bags are being handed out to kids, they should include “all of the children,” regardless of whether they are boys, girls, or have a disability. The importance of inclusion is even greater when it comes to children with disabilities.

A UNICEF article on disability inclusion states, “Inclusion is not a favor. It is a right. And it is achievable.” Another article on Cry.org emphasizes how inclusivity in education promotes emotional well-being. Susan’s disappointment is understandable, even if the waitress’s response was based on Benji being a boy. As highlighted in an IJCRT research paper, gender neutrality challenges traditional binary norms and promotes inclusivity and equality. Benji’s mom mentioned in her post caption, “Don’t make assumptions that leave children and families out. Just include them and allow them to decline if it isn’t appropriate.”

The video also started with overlay text stating, “Inclusion is always important.” People left their reactions in the comments. @strawb.frog questioned, “I mean, if you paid to be at a princess-specific event and he’s having [sic] fun at said princess event, then why wouldn’t he want one?” Another user, @b.duck.27, added, “Would he be there if he didn’t want one?” Some users also speculated the reason behind the waitress’s response. “He is a boy, that’s why.” @sabthefab2000 remarked. While only the waitress knows the exact reason, Susan’s story certainly sparks a conversation about the importance of inclusivity.
