Man gets touching text from high school classmate for what he said when she was having a bad day 20 years ago
The phrase, “Kindness goes a long way,” cannot be explained until one has felt and experienced it. Doing the smallest thing that has a hundredfold impact on a person’s life is beyond mesmerizing. Something as simple as a smile, a compliment, or even a kind act can be a life-changing reward to a person. A man named Devin, who goes by u/EmotionalEar8525 on Reddit, shared a wholesome high school experience. He did something unexpected and it had a wholesome impact on his classmate. The man shared a screenshot of his former classmate who texted him after recalling the precious incident.
Devin’s classmate connected with him out of the blue, to remind him of a situation from two decades ago. The same had touched her heart and she wanted to extend her heartfelt thanks as a reminder of the impact it had on her. “Hey Devin, not sure if you remember me. We went to high school together in PA,” the message began. The woman mentioned that she had seen Devin’s name on her friend list and wanted to catch up with him. However, she also shared a memory close to her heart. “I remember you told me my hair looked great one day in the hallway,” the woman wrote. She revealed that she had been having a bad day at the time and the “sweet comment” Devin casually shared as he walked by “brightened” her day.
The woman went on to mention that despite 20 years since the incident, she still thinks about how nice it was. Devin was touched by the acknowledgment and responded to his classmate. He wrote, “I don’t even remember that comment I made but I’m glad it made you feel better.” Their conversation went on but Devin and his schoolmate’s exchange rendered a heartfelt takeaway. Nothing you do out of kindness goes unnoticed. You can never know the power of your thoughtfulness. “I got this sweet message on my Facebook. Sometimes a compliment can go a long way,” Devin wrote in his post.
Several people could relate to this impromptu kindness and shared how it felt being on the giving and receiving end of the same. u/hingleMcCringle_ recalled, “It was maybe 8 years ago. An older lady said she liked the color of my hair. It wasn't dyed or anything, it's just a silky golden blonde. Whenever I'm hyper-focusing on my flaws, I look at my hair and just think, 'At least your hair is a nice natural color.’” u/beeesnaxxxx wrote, “When I was 10, I was getting a haircut and an old lady was sitting close by. Suddenly, she looked at me and said, ‘Your head has a really good shape, you’ll never have to worry if you go bald.’ To this day, I remember it and I’m 28! You never know how far a little compliment can go, can stick with someone forever!”

u/sargsauce exclaimed, “20 years ago, a girl asked if I was a swimmer because it looked like I had strong, broad shoulders. That stuff sticks with you!” u/zerombr added, “If only we were as supportive of each other as we should be. Those solitary moments of approval are like an umbrella against the storm, keeping you just a bit safe from the depression.”
