Man met a 50-year-old and her friends at a club and kept touching her despite repeated refusals — one firm reply left him embarrassed
Women are forced to keep their guard up in public spaces because many don’t understand the concept of consent. A Threads user and mom, Sophie Luminara, who goes by @sophie_luminara, shared a post on Monday, August 17, 2026, explaining how she experienced something frustrating while out clubbing with friends. The 50-year-old woman met a man who repeatedly tried to get close to her and kept dancing with her despite her repeated refusals. When he ignored her warnings, she gave a response that put him in his place.
The man befriended Luminara and her friends and started dancing with them. Soon, he started getting close to them. Though he was not touching them sexually, she wasn't comfortable with his behavior. Each time she refused his attempt to touch her, he tried to brush off his actions by telling her friends she was "no fun." When he took another shot while she was alone, she lost her cool. "On the busy dance floor, I pulled away and loudly told him, ‘Get off me.’” Luminara admitted that the enraged man likely thought of her as a “man-hating” person. “I didn't want this drunk, strange man touching me, even if it was ‘only’ hugs. So from the very first attempt I was firm and told him, ‘Don't touch me,’” she said.
The stranger got offended but continued his behavior, prompting the bold reply. She noted that according to him, his actions weren’t wrong, but for her, they were unsettling. “I wonder how he'd feel if a bigger, stronger, strange man decided to pay him that much attention on a night out,” she wrote. After having to deal with creeps since her teenage years, she said she was exhausted from having to deal with how entitled some people are.
She explained that a “no” should suffice, no matter how trivial or serious the situation seems. Commenters were livid after reading Luminara’s story. @jenx_bs4evs said, “Our mere existence isn't some kind of open invitation for anyone to do anything. Period.” @pinkyandthebrains added, “It's basic consent. If they don't understand no to asking for a number, a drink, touching, etc., then they don't understand consent for anything more serious.” @caleyhoneywell remarked, "No is a full sentence."
Consent is not limited to sexual interactions. A simple “no” means you stop. In another instance, a woman shared how a man kept trying to engage in conversation despite her asking him to stop. She was using the treadmill at the gym when he hopped onto the one right next to her and began talking. She said no, but he continued speaking, making her uncomfortable. Seeing that she was uneasy, four strangers working out decided to hop onto the surrounding treadmills and let the creep know he was being watched. He immediately got agitated, shouted a curse word, and left. The staff later had him banned for harassment.
