Man was confused when his neighbor called his dog ‘consistent’ — then he made an unexpected stop during his walk and left him embarrassed
Dogs are known to be affectionate creatures with a natural desire to connect with humans. Their behavior and actions often prove this. However, a man recently shared an incident in which his dog's actions caused him embarrassment in front of his neighbor. He explained his fixed routine of taking his dog out for a walk every morning before work. He (u/EthanJLC) shared a post on Reddit on March 26, 2026, explaining that his neighbor once commented that his dog was "consistent," which he couldn’t understand at the time. However, what happened the next morning left him embarrassed once he finally figured it out.
One day, while following the same routine, he received a comment from his neighbor, who said, “He’s very consistent, huh?” The pet parent couldn’t understand what he meant at the time due to a lack of context. However, the very next morning, he noticed his dog slow down near the neighbor’s house, step into the same spot, and stare through their living room window. His neighbor was jogging on a treadmill right by the window. The neighbor looked at him and waved, and he waved back. But as he tried to walk ahead, pulling him along, the dog resisted, making the moment awkward.
“We just stood there for a few seconds longer than a normal human interaction should last. Now I understand what 'very consistent' meant,” the man wrote in the post. He realized that the entire incident had been happening daily “for months.” His dog would stop to look at the neighbor every morning. He was completely unaware of being a part of this routine, as he was busy scrolling on his phone. He had mentioned at the beginning of his post how these morning walks were mostly in "autopilot" mode.
His realization that this had been happening every day without him noticing, and that he had misunderstood his neighbor’s comment about the dog’s consistency, likely left him red-faced. His Reddit post was titled, “I don't know if my dog is more embarrassed or if I am.” The post has been upvoted over 1,500 times. Many users have shared their reactions in comments, suggesting possible reasons behind it and what the dog owner could do next. u/chairmanghost wrote, “I think your dog wants you to walk him too, poor dude doesn't get walkies.”
Since the dog-dad remained clueless about this for months due to his engagement on the phone, u/samreadit advised, “Put your phone down, please, enjoy the walk through your dog's eyes.” u/SeaFollowing380 described it as, “At this point you’re not walking him, you’re just accompanying him to his daily show.” It wouldn’t be wrong to say that, as the user also revealed that the routine continues, and he faces a dilemma over whether to interrupt it or just stand there and commit. “So far, I’ve been committing,” he wrote.
