Motorist was facing hefty fine for running a red light. When Judge Frank Caprio learned why, he instantly dismissed the case

When it comes to determining a verdict, many factors have to be considered. It is a challenging decision judges have to make, using several skills, knowledge, experience and wisdom. When Judge Frank Caprio was to render a verdict regarding a motorist who ran a red light, he proceeded with caution, per Caught in Providence. As a fair judge, he ensured he heard the man’s plea and made a judgment based on his understanding and skill. While one couldn’t possibly think of a valid reason to run a traffic light, this motorist’s explanation was one to remember, which prompted the judge to dismiss the case instantly. 

Judge Caprio is known for exercising humanity and fairness in his cases. His wisdom and skill helped him deliver verdicts in an inspiring manner. When the motorist was called to the stand, the judge eased the hearing by first asking about his beard. The man mentioned that he had been growing his beard out for a year. When asked why he chose to grow a full beard, he said, “I’m bald, so it makes sense with my face,” adding that he worked outdoors and having a beard in the winter would be helpful. The judge then brought to light a fellow inspector present at the hearing who had also been growing a beard. 

The inspector mentioned that he was doing so to raise money for kids with cancer. Calling it “Cops for Kids with Cancer,” the officer noted that the proceeds raised through the initiative go to the kids and other causes. Judge Caprio offered to donate some money towards the cause and proceeded with the case. Having already broken the ice with the motorist, the judge asked, “Was the red light because of the glare of the sun off your head?” to which the man smiled and said, “No.”  He then explained his poignant reason. The motorist mentioned that he was doing a lift as part of his job as a driver. However, he received a call from his pregnant wife that she was bleeding. 

The man immediately closed his app for work and headed home to be with his wife. Having had four miscarriages in the past, the man had been through a lot and didn’t want to delay in getting to his wife in need. “The light was yellow, it wasn’t red at the time, so I tried to go through it,” he explained. He added that he only realized he had passed through a red light after receiving a ticket. When the judge asked how his wife was doing, the man unfortunately revealed, “My wife is doing good, but we lost the baby.”

Hearing these words, the judge spared no second and said, “I think, based on the circumstances, I think it’s appropriate that I dismiss the case.” He added, “We all share in you know your sorrow at this unfortunate event.” As he mentioned, Judge Caprio dismissed the case before enquiring how the man and his wife were doing.
