Man yelled ‘What’s your problem?’ at 54-year-old woman after trying to back into a parking spot she wanted — her honest reply was years in the making
A bad day may explain someone's mood, but it doesn't excuse treating others poorly. A 54-year-old woman, who goes by u/MenoEnhancedADHDgrrl on Reddit, shared her experience on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after a man yelled, "What’s your problem?" at her in a hospital parking lot. Already running late for a physical therapy appointment, she wasn’t in the mood to be intimidated. She chose a response she had been waiting years to deliver.

The woman explained that she had been trying to reach her physical therapy appointment on time when she got stuck behind a driver moving extremely slowly through the crowded hospital parking lot. When the driver appeared to be backing into a spot she wanted, she grew visibly frustrated inside her car but didn’t honk. However, as soon as she parked in another spot and got out, a man across the lot began yelling, “What's your problem?” When he demanded an answer a second time and dismissed her explanation that she was simply trying to make her appointment, she decided she wasn’t going to back down. She told him, "I'm postmenopausal, and I have zero f****s left to give. Come at me, bro. I'll be right in here," before heading into the hospital.

The woman said the adrenaline rush she felt after the response was intense. She had been dealing with several health conditions for years and had only recently received an autism diagnosis. She is still adjusting to life after menopause, so she has less patience for people trying to intimidate her. Despite standing her ground, she later wondered if she could have handled the situation differently. She even acknowledged that the man might have been dealing with something difficult himself. While sharing the story, she said she hoped to respond with more compassion next time, perhaps by asking why he was upset and suggesting he seek help rather than yell at a stranger.

People in the comments largely supported her response. u/FriendToPredators wrote, “I think you were ridiculously restrained. I'd have given him a novel's worth until he walked away.” Another user, u/FlowerFrosty2160, said, “You didn’t do anything wrong. The guy just sounds insecure about his terrible driving.” Meanwhile, u/Samcandy2 remarked, “Awesome. Sometimes we have to let it out.”
The woman’s suspicion that the man might have been having a bad day could well be true. Sometimes, a stranger’s anger hides struggles we know nothing about. While she had every right to stand up for herself, showing compassion can also make a difference, as one woman discovered after choosing to help a stranger who had treated her rudely. In another story, a woman named Sara Jean was yelled at twice by a fellow shopper at Walmart after the shopper hit her cart. Jean apologized and let it go. But when she later found the same stranger struggling to pick up her spilled groceries in the parking lot, she stopped to help. The shopper broke down and revealed she was dealing with family and financial problems.
