Middle seat passenger told girl by the window to slide over his lap, calling himself the ‘luckiest man’ — only to get what he deserved moments later
Passengers showing basic courtesy to one another can make air travel more comfortable for everyone. A recent journey became memorable for the wrong reasons after one traveler's unusual behavior left two women feeling uncomfortable. TikTok user Steph Bohrer shared the experience with her followers on August 14, 2026, under the handle @stephbohrer, recalling how a man in the middle seat asked her to cross over his lap instead of standing so she could reach her window seat. He then loudly called himself the "luckiest man" on the plane, unaware that his actions would soon lead to consequences before the flight was over.
The man's actions eventually led to the response he faced when a flight attendant moved both women to different seats after another passenger reported his behavior. Bohrer said she was flying from Charleston, South Carolina, to Portland, Maine, when she found the man seated between her assigned window seat and another young woman. Instead of getting up, he patted his lap and said, "Come on over." She replied, "No, thank you," and asked him to stand. He questioned her request before finally moving aside so she could reach her seat.
Bohrer explained that she first thought his remark was meant as a joke, but he stayed buckled into his seat and expected her to squeeze past him. Respecting personal space is one of the simplest ways to make travel comfortable for everyone. After she sat down, the man continued talking loudly, repeatedly saying, "I'm the luckiest guy on this plane." He asked both women personal questions, including their ages and whether they were traveling alone. The content creator kept her AirPods in and focused on her phone, hoping to avoid further conversation.
The interaction continued with the man making remarks about Bohrer's phone use and trying to keep both women engaged. Speaking up after witnessing inappropriate behavior can help protect others in difficult situations. A passenger sitting behind them had noticed the exchange and reported it to a flight attendant. Shortly afterward, the crew member asked Bohrer and the other young woman to collect their belongings and move to another row.
The man repeatedly asked, "Did I do something wrong?" and wondered why the women were being upgraded instead of him. After reaching their new seats, the two women finally spoke about what had happened. The younger passenger admitted she had claimed to be 17 because she wanted the man to stop talking to her. They were given a row to themselves and completed the flight without any further issues. After landing, they quickly walked through the airport together to avoid meeting him again.
Unfortunately, every now and then, passengers encounter someone difficult. In another incident, a teenage traveler shared how a man seated beside her made her feel uneasy by repeatedly trying to start conversations, invading her personal space, and refusing to stop despite her clear discomfort. After he deliberately touched her thigh, she quietly switched seats with her mother, who also became a target of his behavior. A flight attendant then asked the young woman about the incident and reassured her, "We will help you out." Following the flight, the family stayed inside an airport bathroom until they were sure the man had left the area.
