Mom booked an Airbnb and told the host her daughter had just gone through a breakup — what they found on arrival left them speechless
Children’s well-being is something parents never want to compromise on, especially when it comes to their emotional health. In such moments, they’re often willing to go beyond expectations just to support their children. Mom Rachel Winston Long (@rachel_long_3) shared her experience on Sunday, April 12, 2026, on Threads, about the time she flew to be with her heartbroken daughter. She had booked an Airbnb and already explained to the host why she needed a last-minute stay. However, upon reaching the accommodation, they found something they had not imagined at all, which left them emotional.
Rachel revealed that her daughter was nine hours away from her in college when she was updated about her relationship. Her daughter and her boyfriend of one year broke up. The mom decided to take a plane to support her daughter emotionally and booked an Airbnb at the last minute, leaving a note for the owner explaining the situation. However, upon their arrival, they received a hearty welcome in the form of food, flowers, and a handwritten letter from the host. This thoughtful gesture, given that the owner was aware of the situation, moved her to tears.
“I almost cried,” she wrote in the post, sharing a photo of the warm welcome they received at the Airbnb. The picture showed a small bouquet of flowers, a handwritten note stuck on the box which had sweets, and a packet of lollipops. The mother also said that a gift certificate for a free pizza was included by the owner. Although it was just a small gesture, what made it especially meaningful was that the owner was aware Rachel was there to provide emotional support for her daughter and had planned their welcome meticulously.
Their handwritten note read, "The flowers are just a token to help bring a bit of cheer to your daughter." It even took a jab at her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, probably in an attempt to bring a smile to the heartbroken girl’s face. While it began with a warm welcome to Clemson and mentioned "treats" for them to enjoy as they settled in, what stood out most was the playful choice of lollipops the owner had included.
“The lollipop brand choice is inspired by ‘what’s his name,’” the note read, referring to the boy who broke up with Rachel’s daughter. The lollipops on the table were of the "Dum-Dums" brand, and the owner humorously tied the nickname to him. The letter ended by assuring the mom and daughter that they could ask for anything they needed, whether by call, text, or through the app. Rachel, who had booked Airbnb for the first time for a last-minute stay, described the entire experience as “amazing.”
