Mom carrying a fussy newborn was called in at an OBGYN clinic— the waiting room's response deserves applause
It takes a village to raise a child and support a mother. It is during the seemingly small moments that moms need to be seen and stepped up for. When Threads user Hannah Gay Keao (@hannahgaykeao) visited her OBGYN at six weeks postpartum, she noticed a mom with a fussy newborn. When the latter was called in for an appointment, the other women present in the waiting room immediately responded with a heartwarming reaction. Sharing the story with Threads users on January 16, 2026, the new mother noted how such a unified reaction deserves recognition and must be encouraged.
Hannah was waiting in the waiting room of her OBGYN clinic when a new mother with her fussy baby was called in for an appointment. The minute she got up to go into the room, the other women "jumped up to help her carry things, including her baby." It was almost as if it were instinct. The mom didn't ask for assistance, but they likely noticed her with her things and her fussy baby and immediately knew she would need a hand, and stepped in together. What amazed Hannah was that not one, but nearly all of them were eager to help and extend that kindness. By helping her with the baby and her belongings without even asking if she needed it first, the women in the room displayed a genuine sense of kindness and awareness. Sometimes, helping people in need before they ask comes from a place of empathy.

When I landed, my whole section in the plane got up to carry my things for me. Even when I said, 'Oh, I got it, an older man said, 'No, I'm carrying this for you,' in such a kind way that he knew I needed it. I’ve never experienced such kindness from strangers before." @alina_cio wrote, "I work at a midwife clinic. I come and help new moms carry their things and babies when I call them back. And encourage them to hold/breastfeed the baby during the exam if they need to. And I won't have it any other way."
@joyfulljenny_ noted, "We once had a blowout and had forgotten to replace the outfit in our diaper bag. Another mom gave me a onesie she had in hers. Now I’m carrying an extra so I can pay it forward if it ever happens." Hannah's story reminds us of Nae, a new mother who was feeling overwhelmed at Target when her newborn's fussy reaction caught the judgmental attention of other shoppers. Upon getting the stares, the mother immediately broke down in tears, but one stranger decided to do something that left her feeling grateful. She walked up to her and assured her by saying, "I got it. Just put your baby in the car." The stranger helped the mother by putting her grocery bags in her car for her. The kind gesture displayed by her touched her heart, and she wrote, "The humanity she showed a new mom who was emotionally struggling. I think about her a lot. I hope that Queen is thriving."
