Mom demanded a second measurement after hearing her teen daughter’s first bra size at Victoria's Secret — the reason made the employee pause
Many girls feel vulnerable during their first bra fitting, especially as they begin navigating body image concerns. TikTok user Paris Mwendwa, who goes by @parismwendwa, works as a retail employee at Victoria's Secret. She was once tending to a mother-daughter duo shopping for the young girl's first bra. The mom demanded that her daughter be remeasured after Mwendwa revealed the correct size for her. On May 11, 2026, the creator explained how the mother's reaction could have impacted the child.
Mwendwa noted that the young girl looked unbothered about shopping for a bra and clearly appeared to have been forced to visit the store by her mother. "She had a Pokémon bag. Probably the only reason your mother could even get you to go to the mall was so that you could go and get your Pokémon cards," she remarked. When she took the young girl's measurements and revealed them to the mother, the woman looked astonished by the result. The mother could not believe her daughter was a 32D when she herself wasn't big-chested, urging the employee to check the size again.
The woman's jealousy toward her own daughter shocked Mwendwa, who called out the mother's reaction online. According to Wilson Counseling, critical mothers can impact daughters' mental health. Comments about weight, beauty, or style can harm the young child's self-esteem and body image. "These patterns of criticism can make daughters question their worth, cultivating an inner critic that mirrors the mother’s critical voice and can become a dominant narrative in their lives," the report noted.
Having worked at the popular lingerie retailer, Mwendwa had seen many women break down in tears due to various insecurities surrounding their bodies and beauty standards. She also called out many mothers for projecting their jealousy and insecurities onto their daughters. "Why are you jealous of your daughter? She doesn't want to be here, just get her a bra and go," she expressed.
Following the TikTok creator's post, many internet users shared their thoughts. @ayyani90 shared, "That is so freaking weird." @shelb.ily commented, "This is such an insane dynamic that I would have never even known about." @cheesedoodledust shared, "I feel so bad for girls that had to go through this." @thisisthe4ofus mentioned, "These mothers need to be reminded that this is not the time to be envious of their daughter. Instead, they should be supportive and excited for her."
