A little kindness from a stranger always means so much when you're caught in a vulnerable moment and don't know what to do. Instagram creator Hayli Baez was shopping at Target with her young son when he suddenly needed help in the bathroom, leaving her confused and trying to figure out how to help him. That is when a stranger stepped in. She shared the experience on Instagram @haylinic on September 17, 2026, and what the stranger did while she was inside touched her deeply.

Hayli explained that she usually takes her son into the women's restroom, but this time, his sudden bathroom emergency sent him running into the men's restroom before she could stop him. He is usually fine going by himself, but this time he suddenly started calling for his mom from inside. Hayli wasn't sure how to help without entering the men's restroom when a stranger walked in. About 15 seconds later, he came back out and told her, "Hey, I went in; I cleared it for you. There's no one else in there. If you want to go help him." Hayli was touched that he went out of his way to help without her even asking. But the stranger wasn't done. While Hayli helped her son wash his hands, she heard him standing outside the restroom, telling another man to wait a few minutes because "there's a mom in there helping her son."

The stranger stepped in to help before Hayli even had to ask. He understood what was happening and chose to wait outside the restroom while she helped her son, making sure she was comfortable. The thoughtful gesture stayed with Hayli, which is why she decided to share the moment on Instagram. She thanked him for making her feel safe and comfortable in an awkward situation and for showing her son a simple but meaningful example of how to help someone in need.

Hayli said that while she thanked him in person, she wanted to do it again because she was so grateful for what he did. She also asked other men in the caption if they would choose to do something similar if they were at the man's place. The video touched viewers, many of whom admitted they had expected the story to take a very different turn. @kitty.maowmaow wrote, "This is not how I thought this was going to go." @andrea_matson said, "I bet he's got a wife and kid." And @asumendi77 shared the same relief many viewers seemed to feel: "I was waiting for bad news, and I'm so happy to hear this."

It can be stressful for parents when their kids need help in a public restroom, especially when they can't go inside themselves. A little reassurance from strangers can make those moments much easier. For another mother, it was a nervous situation when her 6-year-old son was inside the men's washroom alone. That is when two strangers came up to her and gave her words of reassurance. One told her, "He's singing to himself, haha," while another let her know her son was just washing his hands and would be out soon. Those small updates helped put the mother at ease, much like the stranger's kindness helped Hayli in her own difficult moment.
