Mom learned her son had mocked a Black girl’s hair at school — her response became a lesson he would never forget
Good parenting is not about proving a child is always right. It is about helping them learn when they are wrong. That was the case for one mother who recently shared how she handled a troubling situation involving her son at school. The mother, Joshaline, spoke about the experience in a TikTok video, explaining why she felt it was important to address the matter in a meaningful way. Shared on Thursday, June 4, 2026, under the handle @joshalined, the post focused on teaching respect and accountability. While she did not ignore what had happened after her son made fun of a Black girl's hair, she wanted her son to understand the consequences of his actions in a way he would remember for years.

Instead of simply grounding him or giving him a lecture, Joshaline chose an approach that she believed would make a stronger impression. She told her son that money would be taken from his bank account to pay for the classmate to get her hair done. The decision was meant to help him connect his actions with a real consequence. She expressed that she wanted the lesson to feel meaningful rather than temporary. By linking the punishment to the incident itself, she hoped her son would think more carefully before making hurtful remarks in the future. Her goal was not to shame him but to help him understand why respect for others matters.
Joshaline later explained what had led to the decision. She said school authorities informed her that her son had joined another student in bullying a Black girl. According to her, the comments focused on the girl's hair after she had taken out her braids, with the boys joking that it looked like someone from the Jackson 5. The mother said she was upset that her child had participated in making fun of “the Black queen” and wanted him to learn that such behavior was unacceptable. Explaining her approach, she emphasized that the next time he thinks of bullying somebody, "I’m going to hit you in the pockets.”
Teaching kids about respect from an early age is important. That is exactly what another mother set out to do when she learned about her son's behavior. The mother was shocked when she received a complaint that her son had used a racist remark toward a girl on his school bus. At first, she found it hard to believe, admitting her reaction was, “Not my son. Ain’t no way that was my son.” However, after speaking with him, she realized the accusation was true. Her son admitted what he had done and apologized, but the mother wanted him to fully understand why his actions were harmful.
Instead of stopping at a conversation, she decided he needed to make things right. She contacted the girl's family, took her son to apologize in person, and encouraged him to bring gifts as a gesture of remorse. During the drive, she spoke with him about taking responsibility and being sincere. When they arrived, “My son apologized, he gave her the gifts, and they hugged before we left,” she recalled. She later explained that she would never excuse bad behavior and wanted her child to understand that actions have consequences.
