Mom requests thieves to return her dead son’s stolen ashes — within 10 days, the response she got broke her heart

The grief of losing a child is something that never gets easier for a parent. The heartbreak and separation are unfathomable. Parents try to hold on to the memories they have left of their kids, and it's unfortunately all they have to cling to. A mom named Stacey Bright held on to her late son Colby Pritt’s ashes to remember him and have him by her side, per WTRF News. The 10-year-old boy was fatally shot, after which his family was devastated. His mom treasured his ashes, but they were stolen from Bright’s car. The mom wanted nothing back except for her deceased son’s ashes, and her effort yielded a relieving result.

It had been a year and a few months since the tragic passing of the 10-year-old. While Bright was trying hard to cope, she held on to her son’s ashes dearly. However, when the mom entered her parked car, she was terrified to find the console open. The cross on which she had put her son’s ashes was missing. Bright was not in a position to worry about anything else. Though she knew it was a burglary, she looked earnestly only for the ashes. “Stuff was just everywhere and I looked down at my seat. I had two urns hanging from my rearview mirror. One of the urns was in my seat and the other one was nowhere to be found in my car. My son was moving seats everywhere and he said ‘Mom, why did they take Colby’s urn?” the bereaved mom recalled.

The loss was unimaginable for the mom. “It made me feel like I lost him all over again. I mean, I’ve got stuff. I got pictures, but I would not in a million years wish this on any parent,” she mentioned. The ashes were the one thing keeping her going, letting her know she had some part of her son with her. However, when it was stolen, she was broken and felt the grief all over again. “I’ve lost him all over again,” she poignantly noted. Bright wanted the ashes back, they were not just ashes, that was all she had left of her son. With the help of WBOY 12 News, the mom shared a plea on Facebook, requesting the burglars to return the remains of her boy.

“My head is going crazy with different thoughts. I haven’t been sleeping and I haven’t had an appetite,” she said. She requested with her cracking voice and tearful eyes, “I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, though, whoever did it, I pray for you every day. That God will put conviction in your heart and you will return that.” In an update shared by the outlet, it was revealed that the person who had the ashes received the news. The person was a member of a group on Facebook and came across the grieving mother’s plea. They decided to remain anonymous and 10 days later, Bright was reunited with Pritt’s ashes. A deeply moving moment brought some relief and strength to the mom. “Thank you to the angel who returned this!” she remarked.
