Mom rushed autistic son to ENT after failed hearing test — doctor’s real explanation left her baffled
Children have unhinged ways of making parents freak out. A mom named Ellea Zinck (@elleazinck) witnessed this through an unbelievable experience with her son. She was worried when her autistic son failed a hearing test at school. Fearing that her son might have hearing issues, she immediately took him to the ENT. But what the audiology doctor revealed left her stunned. Sharing on Instagram threads on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the mother shared that the doctor's revelation was not something she was expecting.
Zinck learned from her son's school that her autistic kid had failed the hearing test. As any concerned parent, she immediately took him to the pediatrician, who advised her to take him to the ENT. It was one thing after another, but the mom went through it all to ensure her kid was alright. After the ENT suggested they get an appointment with the audiology doctor, the diagnosis caught her off guard. After a long appointment, he told her that her son had no hearing issues, but simply chose to "ignore his teachers." The mom was left baffled. To add to it, she mentioned in a thread, "And he heard sounds at the appointment that my ears couldn’t even hear too! Fully showed off!"
Autistic kids can often follow their own way of learning, which may come as a struggle for the teaching faculty. According to a research study published in Taylor and Francis, many autistic students experience anxiety, which often makes it harder to listen to others. Due to the sensory overload and other communication barriers, these behaviors are often misunderstood as non-compliance. It is important, then, to understand how to use alternative approaches to enhance the learning experience. The mom's post was well received by online users who could not stop laughing at the mom finding out about her son's disobedience towards his teachers. Many users also came forward to share their fair share of experience with autistic kids.

Turns out he thought the paragraphs were stupid, so skipped them and just answered the questions." @jkingslp commented, "I know all of that was annoying to go through, but from a former school speech-language pathologist who did hearing screenings and had to send the 'did not condition/failed' letters home to parents, thank you for following up." @kamakanamama commented, "My AuDHD kid failed the eyesight test at school. Took him to the pediatrician, where he passed her test with flying colors. Her diagnosis? He found the school’s test too boring, so he made up his own funny answers."
