Mom was grieving the death of her 6-year-old son—received a 'sign' from her late son that helped her cope with loss

Losing a child can be a really difficult experience for any parent. However, many people find solace in the fact that their child might be in a good place and listening to them. A mom who lost her six-year-old son, Wilder, asked for a sign if he could hear her, and she believed she got one. The mom, Tara Stilwell, who goes by @tara_stilwell on TikTok, shared the story of how she asked for a very specific sign and was stunned to have it. The video received over 7.5 million views.

"It's a pretty good story if you wanna hear it," Stilwell began. "I had just read that book called 'Signs.'" The mom explained that it is a pretty common book that people read after "losing someone they love." The book pointed out that the sign the person is asking for should be very specific. "So I was thinking what could be a symbol for my son that I felt like resonated with him." She felt that the sign would have to cater to a six-year-old. Stilwell felt that most six-year-old boys love LEGO, so she asked for a sign related to that. "I asked him to let me see a LEGO in a place where it didn't belong." So the place couldn't be her house or even any friend's house with kids.
She asked to see a "red" LEGO specifically. "I went about my day, and I kind of forgot about it." She went to her daughter's ballet class later that day and was in the viewing/waiting room when she got the "sign" she had asked for. "I was observing this family I had never seen before. And I was kind of watching the little boy because he was wearing a shirt that my son had owned." She started thinking about Wilder after she saw the boy and switched between watching the family and focusing on her daughter's ballet class. She kept to herself for some time. "The moment I struck up a conversation and I found out that they weren't normally there that day." The family had come in for a makeup class.

"It was just by chance that we were at the same place at the same time," Stilwell recalled. The boy was playing with his cars on the floor by himself, but then he got up and started walking towards Stilwell. "He looked me directly in my eyes and he put one singular red LEGO in my hand." The woman expressed that she got "chills" whenever she thought about that moment. "What are the chances of that. There's no such thing as a coincidence that big, right?" The mom immediately started crying when she saw the red LEGO, but "choked it up" as fast as she could because she didn't want the mom or the boy to see her crying, as she couldn't have explained the reason behind her tears. Stilwell believed that her son could hear her after that moment.

The family lost the little boy after a car hit him while he was riding his bike. The incident happened on his mom's birthday back in 2021, per their GoFundMe page, which was started to get funds for Wilder's funeral and memorial services. People in the comments reassured the mom that her son would always listen to her. @mrs_lmixon wrote, "Wilder said, 'Hey, new friend, can you give this to my mom? She needs it.'" @iamtwin15 commented, "Wilder wanted you to know loud and clear that he is always with you." @nursehadley remarked, "How incredibly beautiful. I’m friends with Laura Lynee Jackson, the author of 'Signs' and sent this to her. I know she’ll love your story." In an update, the mom thanked everyone who was moved by the story and listened to her talk about her son.
@tara_stilwell The most heartfelt thank you to everyone who was moved by my Wild boy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening to me talk about him.
