Mom with a 5-day-old baby got her ‘extra breast tissue’ checked by a lactation specialist — then the truth about the third nipple made her gag

She had already breastfed her older child for 1.5 years and didn't think she could be more surprised by anything the nurse revealed.

A woman's body makes incredible changes during childbirth, and new mothers are often surprised to discover shocking truths about it. Instagram user and new mother Jasmine (@jasminemia.irl) had given birth to her baby five days prior and was consulting with a lactation specialist when she asked her about "extra breast tissue." However, when the doctor revealed to her about the third nipple, it made her gag immediately. Sharing the story with internet users on February 25, 2026, the mother revealed how the information threw her off.

Jasmine, who had just given birth to her second child, was visited by a lactation consultant. She had already breastfed her older child for 1.5 years and didn't think she could be more surprised by anything the nurse revealed. The nurse went on to talk about extra breast tissue, and Jasmine explained that she had been feeling something in her armpits lately, presuming it to be fat that was difficult to burn off. When the consultant inspected, she told Jasmine that a third nipple had been developing there. Jasmine, shocked by the revelation, could not believe what she was hearing. The nurse confirmed, "as if that were cute or something."

Jasmine also noted that after childbirth, her nipple areolas had grown darker in color, which she observed in her armpits as well. Her doctor explained that just like dogs and cats, who have a "line of nipples," humans also have the same milk line. This third nipple, according to the Cleveland Clinic, is called a supernumerary nipple and appears along the human milk line, which runs from the armpit to the groin. However, in about 5% of cases, these extra nipples develop outside the typical milk line. Jasmine, like many other women, assumed the growth was a skin tag, when in reality it was breast tissue with a developing nipple. Some individuals choose to remove it cosmetically due to discomfort; however, no treatment is necessary.

Soon after the post gained traction, many women who were unaware of this interesting fact about female anatomy shared their views. @mandamandayeah mentioned, "Oh my God. I would lactate from my armpits when I was breastfeeding, and years before I got a 'skin tag' removed from my armpit. Did I get my armpit nipple cut off?"

@lizzymada commented, "Because of you, I now have an answer for what the extra-large skin tag in my armpit really is! I have produced milk for 3 years, and I'm just now discovering I could have been more efficient this whole time!" @dragonfly_lactation remarked, "Everyone has a milk line! It goes from your armpits to your groin, and you can have supernumerary nipples. So next time you look at your body, that thing you were thinking is a mole/skin tag may be a nipple." At the request of her followers, she revealed her third nipple in a follow-up video.
