A baby's birth is an exciting moment for many moms. But for one woman, that happiness quickly changed as her baby started turning blue minutes after her birth. The mom, Autumn Wooten, was folding clothes at her house when her water broke a few days before her due date. Wooten realized that she would have to go to the hospital and informed her husband, Thomas Wells, about it. She went inside the bathroom and things took a huge turn after that, per WBTV.

"I sat on the toilet and her head was out," the Dallas mom recounted. The couple knew that the baby could be born at any moment. "She gave a little push and out came Lainey," Wells added. But immediately after, the parents realized that the baby was changing color and it wasn't normal. "We realized that she was turning blue and we didn’t have a sucker nearby to suck out the fluid in her throat, so she just kept turning blue," Wooten continued. The parents called 911 and Officer Moe Mahmoud from the Gaston County Police Department arrived at their house. "I had no idea what I was about to walk into," Mahmoud pointed out as he had only received brief information from the dispatch before he went to the family's house.

The mom and baby were still inside the bathroom and the officer immediately started giving CPR to the baby. "The mom was there. The baby was there. There was also a lot of fluid, blood and other stuff." He went on, "I kind of got down in a ball and I held her like that and I just used my thumbs like that on her chest." He kept pressing his thumbs on the baby's chest for several minutes until she started showing some improvement. "Given the fact that her color was starting to change back to normal, getting a little more pink and a little bit more movement in her arms and stuff like that...that reassured me a little bit," Mahmoud pointed out.

He kept giving the baby CPR until the paramedics arrived at the scene. The new parents were very grateful for all the effort Mahmoud made to save their baby's life. "He kept her stable until the EMS got here and was able to take over," Wooten recalled. "I am very thankful. It could have gone a lot differently." Wooten and Lainey were taken to the hospital after the paramedics arrived and were given the necessary medical help to ensure that they were doing okay. Mahmoud decided to visit Lainey a few days after she was born to check on her.

"I just wanted to hold her. I don’t know why. I just wanted to hold her. She’s breathtaking, honestly. I’m so thankful that I was there. Now that I see her, I know that we share that history. It’s incredible. Every time I look at her, it’s incredible," Mahmoud admitted. "There are not enough words to thank him enough for saving our daughter," Wooten expressed. The officer encouraged all adults to learn infant CPR in case of an emergency. While the mom suggested that expecting parents should have an emergency kit with a suction cup in case they can't get to a hospital in time before the delivery.
