No one knows the trouble pregnant women go through during their pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. It takes a firsthand or in-person experience to get a glimpse of the pain and strength involved in being a mom. A NICU nurse, Mikey, who goes by @thesaintmikey on TikTok, was baffled after assisting newborns and moms at a hospital. He noticed what pregnant and postpartum women go through, especially during childbirth, and was flabbergasted. He couldn’t help but acknowledge the resilient grace women have and shared it publicly in an awe-inspiring message.

Mickey began by energetically and surprisingly exclaiming, “Women!” “Let me get this straight; you just had a baby. And you know what, it wasn’t the smoothest birth. I just got a report of how the birth went, how old you are, how many pregnancies you went through and everything,” Mikey noted. He mentioned that as part of his job, he had to go through the pre-birth reports and got a glimpse at everything pregnant women went through to be in a NICU stay. The nurse added that he was struck by the realization that women have a superpower that is one-of-a-kind.

“I see you being wheeled from the postpartum to the NICU, and I’m like, ‘Hey girl! How are you?'” he said. He noticed that many times, moms are “sleep-deprived, haven’t had much to eat or drink, in pain and exhausted.” “I literally have to fight the urge to get on my knees and bow down to you because what the hell! You just went through an insane vaginal delivery that turned C-section and now you’re here for the feed? I am in awe!” Mikey remarked. Understanding the brutalities pregnancy and childbirth can hold and seeing women pave through it all and still thrive for their babies felt nothing short of a miracle for the nurse.

He noticed how moms, despite their surgery and medication, stitches and problems, are “dropped off in a wheelchair” and the only thing they can think about is, “I hope I didn’t miss my feed.” “I would do anything for you,” he said. This was not all! Mikey was stunned by the selfless love moms had for their babies, and that even in their state of recovery, their baby was their top priority. “You’re asking me how the baby looks. I’m like, ‘How are you? The baby is doing fine, how are you doing?'” he added. The nurse found it inspirational that though moms are “in pain, hungry, bleeding” and yet, the only thought running through their minds is the well-being of their baby.

“Beautiful. Sometimes, I think about how stressed I am at work and in life outside of work. But everything seems small compared to this huge thing that a mother goes through at birth. It’s downplayed a lot,” he explained. While concluding with the sweetest message, he added, “I’m proud to be able to take care of these babies and more proud to be there for mom.” @calmalpal said, “NICU mom here. This made me cry. I had never heard of this perspective before.” @cdizzledee noted, “I would have crawled if they didn’t have a wheelchair for me to go see my baby in the NICU. Nothing stops a mama.”
