Older woman appeared disgusted as two young women openly carried tampons to the restroom — her response when confronted brought them closer
A routine moment in a public place can also lead to an unexpected connection between strangers. A content creator named Em recalled one such encounter after she walked through a public space while openly carrying her tampon in her hand. She shared the experience under the username @missamlay in a TikTok video on July 23, 2026. While another young woman joined her on the way to the restroom, an older woman saw them and appeared disgusted by their carefree attitude. Before the millennial could address the situation, the younger commuter shot back with an epic reply, only for the senior lady to reveal something unexpected.
Em explained that she had initially considered hiding the item because men were nearby. She then decided there was no reason to feel embarrassed and carried it openly instead. Another woman then noticed her and said, "I have to change my tampon, too. I will come with you." The duo walked together and started chatting while waiting in line. In that moment, another older commuter gave them a look that made it seem like she was uncomfortable seeing a tampon out in public. As soon as the young woman confronted her and asked if she was really ashamed by a feminine hygiene product, the elderly person's expression changed. She quickly clarified that she was not uneasy but rather impressed. She explained how her generation was often encouraged to keep such things private. She added, "Many of us had to hide so much of ourselves."
Her explanation changed the mood in the bathroom, creating a wholesome connection between several women across different generations for those few seconds. The interaction showed them what womanhood truly looked like. The simple exchange instilled an empowering confidence in all present in that restroom. After returning, the men recalled their rapport and asked whether they knew each other beforehand. Em. who was already delighted by the whole experience, replied that they were now "besties." The encounter gave them both a chance to laugh and feel supported without judgement. "No greater love story than women," she wrote in her caption.
There has long been a stigma around menstruation, making it important to challenge rude or insensitive comments about it. In another incident, a young employee mentioned to a male coworker that she was struggling with cramps and was not feeling well. Instead of responding with concern, he called her period "gross," making the conversation uncomfortable. She did not stay quiet and called out the disrespect. She confidently said, "It’s really embarrassing that you have a daughter. Imagine not actually liking women and then creating one." She later joked, "I have another work nemesis."
