Love requires that you dare to hope, dare to try, and dare to wait. One Reddit user named Grace Rombach, who goes by u/Gacier1123, dared to put herself out on social media and look for a stranger she couldn’t get out of her mind. In her post dated July 8, 2026, the woman revealed that she made eye contact with a maintenance worker after boarding her plane at Cleveland airport and fell in love. According to a report from PEOPLE, she was traveling on Frontier Airlines, and before she could even get the man’s name, he left. She posted about it in hopes of finding him, and Reddit wove a beautiful story.

Referring to him as the “dark-haired maintenance guy,” she mentioned how she barely looked at him and knew she wanted to give it a shot. She wanted to give him her number, but he was super busy. Rombach couldn’t get this stranger out of her mind. She mentioned that she didn’t see a wedding ring on his finger and assumed he was single. Later, she added a pitch, mentioning how she was an aviation enthusiast and would love to connect with him. Redditors and the airport united to make this meeting happen. The post was reposted on different Reddit forums, and ultimately, the employee, identified as Simon, was found.

Simon was indeed single. After he learned of the story, he decided he wanted to see where this would go. He surprised Rombach with a bouquet and a welcome sign at the airport after she got back from her vacation. The duo quickly planned their first date. One thing led to another, and the woman shared her final and most awaited update — “We are officially a couple and are looking forward to the future.” According to ABC News, this once felt like a story that would remain a dream. At first, it felt impossible, because there were several other workers on the same plane. Simon was right next to her seat. “I was going to say something to him,” she recalled, but all they could do was exchange a glance. Yet, that, and her heartfelt confession online, worked.

Megan O’Connell, the airport’s assistant director of marketing and communications, noted how glad they were, as they could use the opportunity to help passengers. “Around here, you can catch flights and feelings,” she remarked. As poetic as that statement sounds, it is a reality for a handful of travelers. A study by CNN Travel revealed that 1 in 50 passengers find true love while flying. Wendi Gardner, a social psychologist at Northwestern University, shared with National Geographic why love at first sight is not just a myth.

While attraction is one thing, the expert noted, “In less than seven seconds, we can form impressions that are actually fairly accurate.” The accuracy lies in how others would collectively perceive the individual, yet it makes a difference. Commenters were stoked for the duo. u/darkhorse715 said, “Invite all of us to the wedding.” u/Fig-Canner-33 added, “I’m 100% here for this!” u/EffectVivid5430 remarked, “Takes a lot of courage to do this! Go get him, girl!”
