Passenger refused $300 to leave a full Delta flight and named his price — 20 minutes of silence later, he walked away with the $1,300 he wanted
A full flight can turn into an unexpected money-making opportunity when an airline needs passengers to give up their seats. One traveler found themselves in that position after Delta airline asked passengers to take a later flight. Content creator Maxwell Cohen was initially offered $300 but felt the amount was not enough for the change. By the time the situation was settled, 20 minutes had passed, and they had secured $1,300 instead. Cohen later shared the airport experience on TikTok under the username @maxcohennn, in a post shared on September 25, 2026, explaining how the unusual deal came about.

The airline first announced that passengers could receive money for taking a later flight, with the next option leaving around 8 or 9 a.m. Cohen said they were not interested in leaving their original flight for the amount that was offered. When nobody volunteered, the offer increased to $500. That made them wonder whether the amount could be discussed. They then went to the counter and asked if there was "any room for negotiation." The employee laughed at the request, but the content creator was serious. They then suggested taking the next flight for $1,300 and eventually got what they wanted. For Cohen, changing flights did not seem like a major problem because the next option was only two hours away.
They explained that they could simply spend that time at the airport getting some work done. In their video, they recalled arriving early and said, "It's currently 6 a.m. My flight takes off at 7. They also explained that nobody has volunteered despite the airline raising its offer. A person who sees flexibility as an option may find it easier to negotiate when the timing works in their favor. After making their request, Cohen did not know whether the airline would agree to the amount, but 20 minutes after they proposed, "I will hop on the next flight for $1,300," the airline ultimately agreed.
Cancelled or delayed flights can cause inconvenience, but some staff members go the extra mile to offer passengers comfort instead of mere compensation. This is what one pilot ensured in another incident when a medical emergency forced a flight to make an unexpected landing. The passengers had to remain at the airport for several hours before continuing their journey. The delay became harder when they learned the airport was preparing to close, leaving them with limited food options after a long and tiring wait of 7 hours.
The pilot then decided to make the situation easier for everyone. He arranged for pizzas to be delivered directly to the gate, making sure the waiting passengers had something warm to eat. One traveler later praised his effort, saying, "Our pilot is absolutely amazing. He felt so bad for the situation that he ordered 30 pizzas from a local pizza shop and had them delivered right to our gate." Around 150 passengers were waiting, and the pilot helped distribute the food before getting a plate for himself.
