Pickup crashes into home tragically killing the driver — but the ‘nice weather’ ended up keeping the homeowner alive
A tragic crash in a quiet Massachusetts neighborhood recently left one man dead while another narrowly escaped harm inside his own home. As reported by PEOPLE, the incident took place on Monday, May 18, 2026, when a pickup truck slammed into a house in Hanson. Authorities later shared that the homeowner survived because of a simple decision connected to the pleasant weather that evening, a detail that added an unexpected layer to an otherwise heartbreaking accident involving a local driver who later died from his injuries.
Emergency crews responded to the single-family home on High Street at around 6:22 p.m. after neighbors made several 911 calls, as per 7 News Boston. When first responders arrived, they found a Chevrolet pickup truck rolled onto its side after crashing through the home’s front bay window. The driver, identified as 58-year-old Brian Crowley of Hanson, "was unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle." In the middle of the emergency, officials revealed that the homeowner normally sat in the room struck by the truck, but had chosen to sit in his sunroom that evening “because it was a nice day,” unknowingly avoiding a direct impact.
Firefighters immediately began rescue efforts and used hydraulic tools to remove the driver from the damaged vehicle, according to Hanson Police. Neighbor Chris Briggs recalled hearing a loud crash and said nearby residents tried to help before emergency crews fully took over. “A couple of people jumped on top and tried to go through the passenger side,” he explained, while checking if the driver would respond. Despite the efforts, Crowley was transported to Brockton Hospital, where he later passed away.
Officials later confirmed that the driver was the only person inside the truck and that speed was not considered a factor in the crash. A section of High Street remained closed for several hours as police and reconstruction teams investigated what caused the vehicle to leave the road and crash into the house. Hanson Police Chief Michael Casey described the event as “unfortunate,” adding that such incidents are especially difficult in a small town where many residents know one another personally. While the homeowner escaped without injury, the crash left behind major damage and a painful loss for the local community.
Sometimes, a series of coincidences is all a person needs to believe in the power of miracles. That is exactly what one woman experienced when a hiking trip in the mountains nearly turned fatal after a huge boulder fell 500 feet, struck her, and threw her down a steep slope. She later recalled, “I remember sliding, and after that, I have no memory for three months.” Even after her heart stopped at the hospital, a rare combination of trained people and doctors being present at the right moment helped save her life. One trauma doctor later said, “It took a series of miracles to bring her back.” Years later, she continues rebuilding her strength step by step.
